Help me make this sound...? (where's the old thread?)

Post by blazinaidan » Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:48 am

Curious how you guys think this was made. I'm referring to the twinkly synth line. You can go to 1:50 - 2:20 to hear it by itself.

I'm thinking alot of layers and resampling went down here, but maybe I'm wrong. I hear triangle waves and/or lowpassed squares, lots of reverb and delay, and maybe some FM for the bell thing?

Got a bit close to the twinkle with FM, but god, this must be one of those things of beauty that just comes out of hours and hours of layers, effects and resampling.

That reverb looks a lot realistic, probably impulse based (convultion), or even real. Sounds like 2 sounds to me (no resampling or big layer), the base is FM since it sounds like a bell, the other is probably what you mentioned with square/triangle (my ear sucks for waveforms though).

ALSO, this sounds a lot like Omnisphere to me.

Yea sounds like we're on the same page :4:

But what I meant by the layering/resampling comment was referring to all the notes in the lower register. The twinkly bells are definitely one thing, but there's a chord or two slipped in underneath, with a few notes an octave down. They all seem to have different processing going on.
