what are you on about?
Redrum plays audio as does Dr Rex, as does nnxt, etc.
He means audio in the sense of recording/tracking/editing. But yeah Reason has that like two years now if you count record. Without record only Reason 6 has this.
But who cares how you would officially call it. It does the same thing as any other 'DAW'

Below is a quote from Nu-Tone from his DOA Q&A, a good read for all Reason users.

A lot of people seem to struggle with mixing in reason but i'm not entirely sure why - i know that both the commix and logistics albums were written entirely in reason and they both sound pretty fat to me!
My only advice is that reason works best when you keep the signals pretty hot - although that is good advice for any DAW really. The quieter your signal the fewer bits you have to work with so the lower your headroom. All the audio is compressed to a certain extent in reason so that noisefloor is even more of an issue. Having said that, this is Drum&Bass and you don't tend to get too many subtle quiet moments so it's not really something i've ever had a problem with. Maybe i'll use a different program for that ambient meditation album i'm writing though.
Agree with Huty and Lyons, best to keep things loud in Reason to a certain degree. The shitty 'Bass' EQ on the 14:2 mixer is also underrated for taking out the low end of tracks. Don't use boost though
Turnipish Thoughts wrote:Don't mix in reason. That might sound like an ass response, but don't. The sound engine in reason is... funky?. Everything sounds like its in a box, besides there's a crap ton of pointless hoops you have to jump through to actually try and mix down anyway. you're giving yourself a hard task when there are free alternatives that do the job better.
This was very true for when working with v4. I guess the sound engine is better now in v6? with the beasty mixer. Reaper would be the best, cheapest option in order to learn how to mix down 'properly' with gain structure etc if you are using previous versions
