Trying to match vocals to a tempo is a bitch, some parts seem off the beat still :l

Anytime i work with vocals it's rap. I don't really worry too much about matching key. Actually, i usually just use the key the song was originally in and work from there.

i have never once used vocals as a driving part of a melody, or any driving force behind the tune. more of things to atmosphere, like a person yelling woo! or hey. i used a speech in one but thats it. mala's use of the vocals in that is definitely something i would use though, so fucking good. i would do more vocal bits if i werent so shit at it.

It's easier if drop the original song into your project, match it's tempo to yours, match the accapella to the music, then delete the original.

I never thought of doing this :u:. Great idea man. It beats guessing when stretching and such. And if each line doesn't start at the beginning of each bar, you can really spend days just completely missing the groove of the vocals against the music.

vocals + reason = problem!

I've never made a vocal remix... it takes too time and effort when i should be really concerned about the musicality, but i would like to a make tune with vocals one day :corndance:

This is a good thing imo. If it's too perfect, it sounds robotic and unnatural. A human won't hit every single note and will be off on a few words. I like the way that sounds. Of course, there is a line where it's just too much and needs to be shifted a bit. It's extremely common though, and usually easily fixed later. These days in the pop world they are shitting out so many mediocre tunes every week, I think it's a large part of the reason pop music has taken a quality nosedive into overprocessed vocals the last few years. It's like they are competing who can release the most singles.

I love using vocals, but it depends if you mean vocal snips and phrases versus whole verses and choruses.
In the latter case, true it's best to make the tune fit around the vocals, or keep it as simple as possible during the recording session. However, snippets and phrases are easily placed within context, especially in electronic music. Also I would say vocals are one place where compression is actually needed. Vocals are no doubt the most complicated and sonically varied 'instrument' to work with and take up the most frequencies.
