117 Bpm DnB? What? And Why is Dnb sometimes 85 bpm?
So I was listening to Current Value's Remix of Noisia's Soul Purge, and I wanted to know the bpm out of curiosity. I check beatport and I see it 117 bpm? Also Shellshock and Sunhammer which is wierd because those are the fastest songs on the album. If I wanted to produce in this speed do I double time it? Or is it like when they put a dnb tune at 85 bpm instead of 170 bpm, also can someone explain why they do that as well?
Heres the song:
also Shellshock which is crazy fast.... yet 115 bpm
here is the beatport page with all the bpm...

As long as you can get that rhythm going, i guess any bpm is possible... They probably got bored of 170 and 140

85 x 2 = 170

Already answered, but yeah a lot of dnb is made at 85 or near, but it's technically the same thing as 170 etc, just half time. You can get more intricate programming when working in half time. As mentioned dnb does often get marked wrong during scans though because of the way it detects beats, and dnb is much more hectic.

Yeah beatport bpm detection sucks!
For example: Porter Robinson - Spitfire (Kill The Noise Remix)
Real BPM: 172 BPM
Beatport BPM: 115 BPM (dafuq?!)
I can understand being 2x or 1/2 (to be truth, the real BPM in Dubstep is 70bpm imho, we just work at half-step) but that one is totally unrelated.

115/2 = 57.5
That *3 = 172.5
That *3 = 172.5

shellshock is around 170bpm. which you could also say 60 bpm, same thing. Just depends on the producers preference for the grid.

Dat Drum Programming
Thanks guys for the info.
Now about dat drum programming
I am guessing Current Value's Remix was in halftime? Because that snare seems to be slow to be regular timed. But if that's true, how did he make it seem so fast? Or is that just an illusion.
I suppose some of us can try to recreate dat drum programing? What do you guys say?

I think you may be misunderstanding, you can get more intricate in 170 than 85. I don't think anyone is making DnB in 85.wormcode wrote:Already answered, but yeah a lot of dnb is made at 85 or near, but it's technically the same thing as 170 etc, just half time. The same way 90% of people are making dubstep in 140; because you get more control over the drums and such.
