BPMs?

Post by rekordah » Thu Jun 28, 2007 3:31 pm

so i've been producing alot of dubstep style beats that are more around 110-120bpm rather than the standard 140.

just wondering what peoples thoughts are about this....would dj's wanna go anywhere near em?

it seems stuff like burial, kode 9 and a few others beats are around this bpm range, yet they dont seem to get played in sets and are more easily accepted in a long player format.....

i dont really care, i'll still keep making beats at this tempo, and to me it's as much dubstep as anything else, but i just thought i'd see what ppl's thought and opinons are on this...

I think the question at hand here, and one which i'm interested to hear an answer to myself, is whether DJs will avoid certain tracks if they are outside the BPM range of most tracks ?

know wot you mean about making tracks at a slower tempo - bit more space, bit more hazy skank :Z:

but :o: in the mix it's not all roses cos you make a tune slower, djs have to pitch it up... which doesn't matter so much on the beats and bass, but any voice samples (especially snipets from films) start to sound vaguely silly at +3 semitones

no problems using slow tracks with Ableton (complex stretch), but vinyl & 1210s might be a different kettle of fish

just my 2 penneth worth

If tune are made the floor, I would do it around 140bpm.
Easyer for everybody, and tune won't get smacked by uppitching..
even though you can timestretch it (Ableton/Cdj's or whatever) the flow gets smacked IMO...

If tune are made to be listened to. Do whatever....

Yeah, if it sounds good at a lower tempo, do it... Maybe you'll create a new style.

I like DNB at 168.. but most DJ's are playing like 180?? Too fast. Partly the reason I migrated to dubstep 8)

I avoid playing tunes out if they are a certain bpm... there is only so much speeding up you can do untill it sounds like alvin and the chipmunks...
