numark ttusb vs. preamps?

Post by relik » Thu Jun 28, 2007 1:09 am

anyone have any experience with a numark ttusb turntable for recording vinyl to digital format?

i was thinking about getting one but don't know if it would be worth it. i already record fine now, but was looking to get a cleaner signal. i'm going straight from my mixer's output to my computer's line input now.

i was thinking of getting the ttusb only if it will make a difference in the signal. it has a preamp built into it, but i don't know if this table really helps with signal quality or if it's more just for ease in use with it being plug and play. would just getting a decent preamp unit essentially have the same or better effect on the signal?

this turntable is fr like, digitizing your record connection, i figure it probably works the same as any other turntable for any other application

the usb thing is so you can right into the computer and record vinyl...

I have a pretty decent sound card from Creative Labs and don't really need any software. I would be using it for recording my vinyl to archive in digital format.

I just thought this would have a better signal as it's going directly from the turntable to the computer, where my current setup is going from turntable to mixer and mixer to computer.

I just want to have the best possible signal to get the cleanest recordings from vinyl. Obviously it takes a bit to archive vinyl and I wouldn't want to be sacrificing quality due to my recording setup.

Any recommendations on a preamp for recording? Any tips on recording vinyl for archiving purposes?
