Radio 1 maybe. (I dunno).

But certainly not "The radio".

Honestly, I know I'm pushing it a lot, but I think it's the simplest way, have a group of goons that have either "been there from day" or clearly know their stuff, and say, this is what dubstep is to me, either the fundamentals, the classics, whatever. Otherwise everyone and anyone chips in with basically every tune ever released haha. Probably best to lock it afterwards haha.

Dubstep is what it is. Accessible or not. Qawwali is definitely one of the hugest tunes in the underground in terms of fanbase, spanning support across the genres, and had a massive impact. It can't be ignored because somebody might come into the thread, see a tune like 'Qawwali' and be turned off. To be honest, if you see one tune and don't like it and then get put off, I don't see much of a future for you in any scene of music.

True that, and I love Qawwali I wasn't suggesting we do away with that particular tune

And yeah sorry that's my Wikipedia knowledge speaking :6:
At one point Wikipedia said that Night was the first dubstep track played on the radio, and I blindly believed it...

Haha if you don't mind me asking, how the hell did you find out about dubstep down there, especially when it was largely underground?

Also, do you have a deep southern accent? :corntard:

lol, i actually left there in 96

i found dubstep through online radio and mixes. people like deapoh (bare files), bunzero, john peele, joe nice and places like dubplate.net, gutterbreakz, etc

basically by loving bass music and being on the net too much
at the time dnb had reached formulaic levels of boring to me so I was checking into more abstract stuff

...and the accent only comes out when i'm tossed

I'm gonna stop quoting before we take up half the page lol.

Ah so you just were a dnb fan and you came across dubstep?

And how did you become a moderator if DSF was founded in England?

Cos all Youngsta's new mixes sound like one long tune and don't represent the diversity of the dubstep scene at all

didn't say it has to be a new one, some 2005 rinse set or dubstep allstars vol 2 would be a good intro to the genre imo

thats what sold dubstep to me!

But youngsta in general offers very little variation. Love the style, its what I grew up with, but his current sets are really repetitive (no love lost to me though, the man clearly just fucking loves the sound and has done since day one - fair play) and his older sets (especially allstars vol 2!) have a really narrow range of artists and to a lesser degree sound. I mean, allstars vol 2 has what...4 different producers on it? :D Not that they arent 4 of the biggest producers ever...but you get my jist.

I think a post similar to my first one, but trying to showcase the real dubstep sound (rather than the musical fringe of the scene) would be the one. All of them will be in the first few pages somewhere already but yeah, consolidating it into the first post would be a good start.

Dubstep Allstars 3 is my favourite, nice range of tunes and spaceape is a boss

Yeah, I don't think that one mix can showcase the entire spectrum of the genre but Youngsta would be a good start.
It's probably the best to go to a night like DMZ where a variety of producers are playing (i.e. Loefah, Joker & Kode9) - they have different styles but they all have that same philosophy. Going to a night would be a good intro to the night because you would experience it on a sound system aswell.
