thanks for advices everyone will help me in futuer productions too

@ darj your remix is mixed really well and i like the full stereo field but i miss some personal note;
i know its a remix so there is not so much freedom hm i could see some choirs after the second drop working to add something different and you could make it little bit more dirty tiny bit but thats just my taste

@npcompl33t its really all over the place hm i guess in japan it would be legit but for me its to much maybe try to take the best part and focus on that one for example at minute 5 i like that melody the bass plays and i love the metal gear calling in tone if i hear right

@zank i like the start just add some more sub and high end to your bass and work from there you could add the vocal with some delay here and there to keep it grooving fuck you you you you you maybe even fuck and then pitch down you with a heavy wide clap sanre thing carrying on with the vocals some long plate or something

@lifeofcows its definitly to sharp in the high ends but i like the punch of your snare and the shuffling hi hats just bring them little bit more down and i would personaly just go for the sub all way long without the midrange would be really nice with this grooving hi hats and just the beat working its way till the end but if you want to keep it hard maybe listen to some katharsys or old current value to get a inspiration

its a old tune i started maybe i can get some inspiration here to finish it

@npcompl33t

Nice sounds used. I'd find different samples for the intro/end. I keep getting sucked out of the vibe. Beef up the drums a bit, too. MGS FTW! Really got into the heavy part at 3:13

@Darj

Great vibe! What is the original? I'd like to hear the difference. Massively chilled! Quality tune!

@BudSpencertron

Real creative sound. Sounds like it could be in a film or indie. Has a really cool, old school home video reminiscing vibe (if you can decipher that feeling). Great overall production.

Here's a new start for me. Taking the 85 BPM route. Trying to get a vocalist/lyricist over this tune.

@Darj : Man I love this. Really good chill song. You have talent my friend. The mix is awesome and the arrangement is great. Add a little something after the second drop like a choir as stated above or leave it as it is. Good either way.

@BudSpencertron : Wow that is some weird percussions. In a good way. Very unique. I think I am actually in love with your song. I have no clue how you could continue that because I cant even wrap my head around how you started it haha. Maybe I will when I gain more skill.

@jetpack : That is awesome. I love the vibe. I can really imagine a vocalist over this. Cant wait to hear how the song continues. The mix is good as well.

So I just transfered from FL Studio to Ableton and this is my first song really. I have made 2 Hip Hop songs to kind of get a feel for Ableton and I love it. So here it is. I dont really know the whole mixing and mastering process in Ableton yet but I'm getting there. Its loud so maybe turn down the volume a bit before pushing play.

darj: quality is on point! don't know the original but shit is sounding tight! really awesome build structure, loving the mellow vibes. i really have no critisism, great work!

budspencertron: cool atmosphere throughout! quite different, loving the hits. i love the tension you have with the original rythym, but really think it needs to come in a little more in that second section. other than that, i think the atmosphere you have could use a little eqing perhaps.

npcompl33t: i can really appreciate the melody. think your samples need a little bit of tidying up as well as your hits. that drop needs a little more power imo as well. overall great structure though, nice work!

heres my latest wip, feedback would be awesome

@Gaol

Gnarly bass line. I like the formant, but I think a softer mid/high range could make that track bang.

@darj really clean sound and mix. Honestly done really well and I'm a fan of the incidentals you have going on that add to the rhythm. My main suggestion would be to maybe beef up the saw (is there a saw?) in your bass line or give it some motion. It's asking for something a little more involved than just what it is. Nothing at all drastic and definitely not making it harsh, but some extra character would go a long way imo.

@bud strong rhythm. Got a little cloudy around 51ish i think. honestly wonderful song though, reminiscent of Mount Kimbie in the best way. What were you looking to add to it? Aside from heavily chopped vocals which maybe won't even sit well, I think it's great as it is.

@jetpack It's not really my style or to my taste, but one thing I would do is maybe add a bit more high to your snare or layer it with another higher hit to give it a quicker immediacy on the attack? Otherwise, like I said it's not the style I'm into but you kept it weighty and fresh sounding which is always good. It'll 100% be a banger certified with some vox.

@gaol smooth out the high end as it's a bit harsh as it is. if you drop the YOI YOI YOIs, you'd have a much better song! Same advice on snares though. Get them to POP and it adds to much more groove.

@doug it just needs some work on the mix. maybe round off the highs on your snare as it has just a bit too much on it. I think if you gave the song a little room to breathe, it could be a lot stronger. It has great components, but it needs more space. The extra sweeps you have at the end of bars would would work well with a bit of delay and room to really linger in the mix. It would mean changing the main bassline up a little to give some more silence or room for that, but it could get on a sort of Kryptic Minds tip imo.

Just started making dubstep 'proper' again and am looking for some feedback on this one. I'm trying to get a friend to sing on it, but I was going for a sort of Breakage/Distance type of vibe on it and formatting it more like a song than a dubstep thing. I think I may reformat it though and change up the bassline the second time around before it hits the chorus again. Thinking about some light pads in places too.

I've been working on this tune for a couple days now and was just looking for some feedback.

I've only listened to it on studio headphones, so I'm not sure how the mix actually sounds - would love some feedback on that as well.

Thanks

thanks alot i guess i was just asking for feedback at all cause i started this one out of the blue with my guitar and a really crappy headset mic so now i know that its not only liked by me haha just some muddiness here and there as said earlier

to your tune i really dig the hi hat work but i feel a 2 step bassdrum snare would work little bit better with the fast hi hats
the bass is maybe little bit to low mid strong try to split it and make your second channel highcutted at whatever works so that it adds just some cripsness i guess starting shortly over 300 hertz and then add effects that bring the high end more in the front like some distortion reverb chorus whatever works
and try to add another element after the drop at 1:30 maybe some acapella or a short piano downwards arp with dubdelay something that flows into the rythm

@trippin740: You need to give feedback to 3 others but i made the same mistake so ill give you feedback. The wobble itself is nice and heavy. The snare kind of gets lost behind everything though. Try and bring that out some more. The hats have a nice roll to them.

@Glue Reed: Thanks for the feedback man. I love the percussion in your track. The track has a really awesome feel to it. Its filthy but so clean at the same time. Some pads would make it just that much better.

@douugriley: uuuuuugh haha. That is sick. I love everything about it. Nothing wrong that I could hear.

This is just an update of my last track. I added a couple new elements and some Steven Hawking samples. Let me know what you guys think.

point out how flat/amature this track sounds [please]

Post by Cetra » Thu Apr 05, 2012 8:17 pm

it's a dnb track i made that i really like which i eventually deleted along with all my other project files in order to start over a new

i can never get my tracks to sound close to pro quality, even though i know you need mastering done, my tracks always have this amaturish tone to them and i would really appreciate some identification of what i'm doing wrong or not doing

Your drums are pretty good to be honest, you just gotta do more to it you know?
Get more movement in your pads, add some incidental hits, cymbals, create some space in the top end of your track. You have a solid base, it's just really repetitive... Try the things I mentioned and then take another listen.

I thought your drums were pretty good too.Track just lacks interest but if it was a project i had i wouldn't delete it because with a little work could be a really really good track.

i only deleted it along with the other projects i was working on as an experiential thing, to try to get better from the point where i was at when i made that track. i appreciate the compliments and the advice, i'll try to get more incidentals going in my future work, that's always the one thing i usually never get around to unless it's somewhat of central part of a track.

i should have pointed out that i stopped working on that track almost as soon as it was structured, i normally make stuff with more variation. but when i listen to my tracks compared to others it's like a tv from the 60's compared to a HD tv made last week

This is a pretty damn solid base tbh, add some variation on the drums, some incidental hits and a bit of melody, and this would be amazing

Feedback for others:
@Gaol Not too sure about the snare tbh, maybe bring it down a bit in the mix. The vocals are a little too loud as well, cool though. Bass synth is nice and varied. Your melodies are cool too, though the synth sounds a bit robotic. Work on mixing things together better and maybe try varying the synths up a little throughout.
@Glue Reed Sick intro man, really nice. Definitely would suit some vocals - like ghostly female ones. Some chord stabs or pulsing pads would definitely vary things up. Nice perc too. Good job man.
@dougriley Cool intro, drop hits hard, really nice. Everything soundsgood tbh, maybe bring out your top end a little though and make the snare a little more subtle. Sweeps and bass are nice.
@jetpack Nice and catchy, sounds nice and full. I think maybe a punchier snare would be better (EQ'd hard at 200Hz). Also the double time/faster section is cool but it sounds a little slow, maybe add more than the constant hat. Play with panned hats, maybe even claps every few bars - really give it some energy.

Totally new style of track from me, I know lots needs messing with, this is just a preview of the intro - thoughts?
Soundcloud

Track was mixed on headphones, and very roughly mastered, some things probably sound shitty on other peoples systems.

Any comments, feedback and plays/comments on SoundCloud is really appreciated :)

Thanks. :W:

Don't delete your tracks...it would be nice to look back every-so-often to see your progress from beginning to where you are now.

@mthrfnk - sounds dope yo! needa hear that drop homie. intro is bangin tho.

@gaol - eq that white noise & give it some reverb/delay. synths sound coo tho. seems mono tho, give it a stereo image. coo shit tho.

@glue reed - that intro synth is missing some space imo. it sounds a little boxy too. EQ that cut it around 300-500 Hz the drop needs work too very anti climactic. sub sounds prettty good tho. good start.

heres a lil sumthin im working on
