London Mayoral Election 2012
Who's getting your vote on May 3rd?
It goes without saying that it's a fairly shit list to choose from...

For people who are unsure: http://votematch.org.uk/londonmayoral/
Jenny Jones came out top for me (as the Greens usually do) but I tent to avoid voting for them outside of local elections.
Ken second, Boris dead last, even behind the BNP guy :/

You missed Siobhan Benita off your list mate, but then again so has just about everyone reporting on the election, they didn't even allow her on newsnight for the mayoral candidates debate iirc

Count how many times they say the word 'fair'
From the YouTube comments;
fair and inclusive , sounds like communism to me.

Re: London Mayoral Election 2012
Ken, though I'm tempted with the Greens, I have to say. I'm loathe to vote for one of the majors, but I do actually think it's quite important we get Boris the fuck out of City Hall ASAP.
Benita has exactly the right idea, but with the lack of publicity/support she's receiving I can't see voting for her achieving much more than an inner-smile on polling day.
We're in dire need of a new political party.

Re: London Mayoral Election 2012
IMO parties are one of the worst things about politics as it just leads to towing the party line and disagreeing with legitimately good idea purely because that's whats the opposition support... I'd much rather government be made up entirely of independent candidates all with their own agenda, i think it would be fairer and more representative that waymagma wrote:Ken, though I'm tempted with the Greens, I have to say. My internal idealist agrees absolutely... the nagging realist that keeps him under control suspects it might take quite a while to get to that stage. It's almost impossible for an independent to truly compete these days... you either have to be a one-off who's picked a very friendly constituency (like Galloway), a single issue candidate or prepared to lose your deposit in the name of publicising your cause at the hustings.particle-jim wrote:IMO parties are one of the worst things about politics as it just leads to towing the party line and disagreeing with legitimately good idea purely because that's whats the opposition support... But yeah, I agree... it is exactly what we should be moving towards.

Re: London Mayoral Election 2012
Yeah of course it's totally unrealistic for a truly independent system to work atm, I just find party politics creates an "us and them" mentality which never really serves the nations best interestsmagma wrote:My internal idealist agrees absolutely... the nagging realist that keeps him under control suspects it might take quite a while to get to that stage. Who actually cares anymore?
This country is going to shit. I just heard that were the only country in western Europe who's population is increasing. Were already a small enough island, yet we let in millions of foreigners who sponge off our benefit system and some of them don't even speak the language. We have a mayor who's a fucking toff, oh and wait a PM who is one too, both completely out of touch with what's actually going on in this country because they are kicking back in their Oxfordshire mansions allowing more and more people to enter the UK even though we don't have the space because we are a tiny island.
Can't wait to go travelling again and disappear forever, it makes me terribly sad to see this country go the way it is, but really we have little say.

So we should stop people coming here, but it's alright for you to disappear forever?Perej wrote:Who actually cares anymore?

I think you're on the wrong site, what you need is: http://www.bnp.org.uk/
Re: London Mayoral Election 2012
Haha, BNP, that's a good one, also a pretty offensive label considering you don't know me, but hey, if your not intelligent enough to argue, generalise instead

How is it not alright for me to leave the UK? Litteraly makes no sense....
Why would I agree with the BNP? You don't know what your on about. Did I make a comment about race? Simply put, were a tiny island, we don't even have enough housing for people coming in.. how is that fair on them? How is it fair that people who are already here, can't get jobs, yet more people come in, who also can't get jobs because there aren't enough jobs!
Anyway, going OT now. But honestly, don't try and insinuate that I'm a BNP supporter, that's actually pretty sly.

Right.
Firstly, a massive chunk of immigration into the UK is either from returning British nationals, or from people in the EU, and they're all allowed to do that. Or are you suggesting we drop out of the EU so those pesky Polish can't get in? Should we also have a 'you can't leave and come back' rule for Brits that leave? Loads are also students, the ones who pay the fuck off fees at universitys? Should we stop them coming in too? I don't think the Unis would like that.
The bit that rilled me was your bit about people coming here and sponging off benefits and 'not even bothering to learn the language'. You sound like a Daily Mail headline. It just smacks of small mindedness. As far as you're concerned, immigrants give nothing and just take away, there are just as many British people who do that, but they're okay to right? Because they're British? Give me a break.
As a country we *need* immigrants in order to function, they fill skills shortages and do jobs we wouldn't be able to get natives to do. The NHS, for example would crumble if it wasn't for those 'foreigners' you're so against. These people also pay taxes and they contribute to society. You've also got immigrants coming over and starting businesses, again contributing to society, as well as the fact that migrants take work that many British people would see as 'beneath them'. The rise in unemployment has absolutely FUCK ALL to do with immigration, it's to do with the financial crisis shitting everything up. Before the recession, unemployment was low despite Labour actively pursuing mass immigration.
That's before we even get into the cultural benefits of immigration. As well as the fact that immigration allows some of the poorest people a chance of a better life.
I'm not saying immigration shouldn't be controlled, of course it should, but from the stance you're taking it's obvious you're not looking at the bigger picture, seriously, you sound like my gran. Her excuse was she was 90. What's yours?
Perhaps suggesting you were looking for the BNP website was a tad harsh, granted.*
I'm not calling you racist, I'm just calling you hideously misinformed. A large chunk of BNP voters probably are exactly the same (not that I'm equating you to a BNP voter. no no no).
