Re: grimey eski/wiley bass
this might not be what youre looking for but ive got some good grime basses out of distorting kick drums
Re: grimey eski/wiley bass
Some old skool garage/bassline packs have some nice warp basses that with the right ammount of tuning can come close to an eski bass, if I'm picturing the right sound.

Two square waves, detuned very sightly against each other, quick attack, small delay, no sustain, medium release.
That's pretty much it I find, no filtering or effects needed. Post up what you're working on, I've been attempting some eski bits lately, not enough of it around IMO.

let me know how you get on, i love wileys beats!
Re: grimey eski/wiley bass
Here's a breakdown of the methods I use, but there are plenty other effective methods!
Method 1 - Subtractive/Wavetable synth:
If you have a Wavetable synth, you can select and Organ wave (on the third oscillator preferably). I've got a crappy vocabulary, so I apologize. I'm talking about a synth like the ES2 in Logic.
Method 2 - Distortion:
If I want to put some grime or dirt I usually use a bitcrusher and or a multi-band distortion. I like Ohmicide, but I'm not good with it. Going to try out Izotope, as I like it's family of products.
Here's a thread on distortion plug-ins

That's the envelope mate, by creating like a build in the envelope shape and lowering it, it creates a sliding sort of effect, like maxed out portamento, reverb will help it gel even moreSykotic wrote:bump. also having trouble creating it as 'wavey/slidey' as eskiboy does it eventho im using portamento

Re: grimey eski/wiley bass
Now, how do I make a bass like this? Any of those variations will do. I've tried different things with square waves but no luck so far...

Re: grimey eski/wiley bass
The sound Wiley used is a patch from a Korg Triton called feedbacklead or something but there are similar presets in Massive for you to dissect, if you are struggling to work out the mechanics of the sound. They are based around slightly detuned squares and feedback to create the higher harmonics.
