SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
Hey everyone just finished this yesterday, let me know what you think!
The only thing I am trying to really fix before I release it is the sub bass. I have all 3 OSCs in Massive used and the sound doesn't really have bass in it much. Right now I put a 3x osc under it just with a sine wave, just doesn't sound good to me. Should I just EQ the bass in Massive to add more and take out the 3x osc? or how do you guys normally do it?
Soundcloud
I will return feedback!

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
The overall mix is good. You shouldn't need more than a single oscillator to get the sub you are looking for, use SIN-SQ, depending on the key you are playing your sub in, you might need to detune it -12, -24 semitones. Move the waveform knob all the way to sine. Route through Filter 1 -> Low Pass 4, up the resonance a little, push the filter cutoff to about 1/3rd. Buss it to a mono buss, compress, low-pass filter everything from 500hz on up and you should have it.
Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
Well what I meant is that I'm using all three tones in Massive to create more of the higher register of my bass sound. Obviously there aren't 4 tones to use in Massive so I made a sine wave using a different plugin and just played the same notes, the downfall being it doesn't "follow" the higher register of the bass.
So you think removing one of the three I'm using and replacing it with a sine wave INSIDE Massive would be the way to go?
Thanks for the response, I'll show your thread some love

Solid tune man! Some of the wobbles (1.06 etc) feel just a tiny bit "off", if you catch my drift, some more processing to those would be nice. Other than that I think it's definitely a good tune, keep it up man!

Instead of trying to have a one-patch-fits-all approach, get your mid-bass register sitting how you want, with all the harmonics you want, then dupe the plugin, with the same patch, and route all of the oscillators through a low-pass filter, et-voila, a sub that will have the same vibe as your higher mid-bass, but with a lot more sub energy.
Of course, you will want to scrap the sine sub from your mid-bass patch as a result, either by high-passing it, or just turning that oscillator off.

Thanks for the help. IF you want to hear the final version keep in touch on youtube. www.youtube.com/savynealdeafblindmusic wrote:Instead of trying to have a one-patch-fits-all approach, get your mid-bass register sitting how you want, with all the harmonics you want, then dupe the plugin, with the same patch, and route all of the oscillators through a low-pass filter, et-voila, a sub that will have the same vibe as your higher mid-bass, but with a lot more sub energy.

Hi,
I listened to "SavyNeal - My Addiction (ft. Rusko) (High Quality)".
Good intro, really nice drop, but you should have highed the sound of the drop just a bit.
I might upload it, it's a sexy tune. Stay in touch in PM.

this is a good sounding track. what are you using for your bass line here? the one that does the 'wub wub'? and what's your DAW?

Thanks man! Check me out on Youtube and subscribe! I'll be touching this up and uploading in there with a free download soon.Dub_Cult wrote:this is a good sounding track. what are you using for your bass line here? the one that does the 'wub wub'? and what's your DAW?
I used Massive for all my bass sounds in here, all of the patches were made by me.
I use FL 9

You have some nice synth melodies and some good interplay between midrange and melody.
As mentioned, there's no where enough sub bass.
Imo it`s better to eq out any sub frequencies and add a harmonic sine.
It`s pretty well programmed, but as mentioned above, the wobble are a tad off.
good work

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
So I'd EQ most of the sub out of my mid-range bass, and create a duplicate sine and add some harmonics to it? Sorry but ever never been good at producing the right sub bass.Electric_Head wrote:You have some nice synth melodies and some good interplay between midrange and melody.

And could you point out where it sounds off beat? Do you mean that the LFO on Massive is in the wrong position? On a couple of the wobbles the LFO starts on a different spot. Should it always start at the top of the curve?
Thanks again, really.

Sub bass is generally best as a single sine.SavyNeal wrote:So I'd EQ most of the sub out of my mid-range bass, and create a duplicate sine and add some harmonics to it? In the case of more midrange tunes that you may not listen to on a sub but still want some bass to be heard then you could add a layered sine rather than a single sine.
Imo you`d be better of making a thick sub that has body and weight.
Consider using a spectrum analyzer if you can`t hear it, at least you`ll know it`s there.
The first wobble that hits seems to be slightly off time with the turnaround of the wobble.
It seems to be the note change that is responding slowly.
You may want to turn the attack up to get it hitting faster.
Does this make sense?
It may well be the sound itself that is slower than the wobble creating a bit of a slight tempo drift.

Yeah I gotchya with the attack on the wobble.Electric_Head wrote:Sub bass is generally best as a single sine.SavyNeal wrote:So I'd EQ most of the sub out of my mid-range bass, and create a duplicate sine and add some harmonics to it? I still don't fully understand on how I should form the sub bass though.
Right now it's Massive using all 3 osc's for the main part of the wobble, (when I say bass I mean the wobble part of it too, the entire spectrum)
Under Massive I put a single sine from a seperate plugin, which is why the sub bass doesn't match the wobble bass.
Instead should I keep all the osc's on Massive the same (which leaves me with little sub bass, mostly just the grit of the wobble) and clone it, creating a sub bass in Massive using a single sine? and play both the two Massive's at the same time.
Sorry for being unclear or picky >.<
I've been producing for 1 year and dubstep for only 5 months

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
You`d want to highpass the massive bass and remove the sub & kick frequencies unless you are sidechaining the bass to the kick.
From there you`ll want to add the same midi notes as your midrange but only playing sub frequencies.

Re: SavyNeal - Ayo Technology (Dubstep)
I know what sidechaining is, never done it though. I already have my kicks highpassed at 90hz throughout the song so I'm hoping that'll be high enough for during the drop, I'll repost it when I'm finished.Electric_Head wrote:You`d want to highpass the massive bass and remove the sub & kick frequencies unless you are sidechaining the bass to the kick.

You want to make sure your midrange is not clashing with the kick or Sub.SavyNeal wrote:I know what sidechaining is, never done it though. From there program the sub the same as the midrange midi.
It should follow the midrange.

Nice work man, the glitchy sample worked parts are awesome, nice wobbles and structure etc too.
Will sound better with a nice sub in there.
Keep it up!
