for some reason, i can make much more "sad" progressions with MAJOR scale - g major is the saddest sounding scale, in my opinion. minor scales sound "darker" however.

of course, once you get into modes - it's all meaningless. learning intervals is the only thing you'll ever need.

Eh, I don't know about major ALWAYS sounding sad, but if you use the 7th a lot as the root for a chord in a progression I can definitely vouch for the possibility of a major scale effecting sadness. Unless you're Gmaj is emphasizing it's relationship with Emin... lol but then, we are getting into modes, aren't we?

i make all my music (dubstep included) in the key of C. which i know is the default but i cant change it in my program

no im unable to change the key in the program i use, i took music theory classes. and im learning how to use another program that is much better than my current one
