On a mad housework trip listening to them at the minute, it's ironically making me not want to kill myself.

In no particular order:

Still Ill, Asleep and I Want The One I Can't Have.

Actually gotta mention There Is A Light That Never Goes Out too. Need to stop though, so many.

EDIT: And Back To The Old House. Stopping now.

easily the best lyrical song they have. Charming man would be the best guitar song they did. Both should be tops on most ppls list but light that never goes out doesnt get as much love as charming man

Honestly, it was going to be in the top 3 as well. But much love as charming man, you must be mad, light that never goes out is well popular, probably even more so.

Ahh, I think 'Still Ill' and 'I Want The One I Can't Have' are the best lyrically, pretty much why I picked them. 'There Is A Light..." comes very close though!

What Difference Does It Make
Asleep
Paint A Vulgar Picture

Honourable mention to Still Ill and about 20 others. The Smiths were my absolute favourite band when I was about 17/18, picking Manchester for Uni was in some part influenced by my love for the Smiths. Barely listened to them in the 8 years since I left for Uni though, really need to give them another good listen.

I haven't heard a Smith's song for at least 10 years
let alone pulled out their vinyl
but the tunes I can best immediately hear in my head are:

Some Girls...makes me smile
There's a Light...uplifting
I know it's over..."I can feel the soil falling over my head"
all from the third album

totally original & beautiful,
overt emotionality challenging my sexual preconceptions
