Love this. A lot. Zone is the one...
Re: Elgato - Zone/Luv Zombie [HES020]
yes, Elgato made the track here that I wanted to make for the past couple of months I feel. This is what I was after, just drag it out and smear it reaaaaaaal thick. Zone IS the one, but also feeling Luv Zombie, indeed I heard Locked Groove dropping this the other day and it's a tool of war.

boring records like this make me wanna listen to tuffstepdj seizure wrote:Don't get this AT ALL. I was pretty shocked to see this on Hessle and more shocked to read people on here rating it. Most the heads I've spoken to also agree that this release is a little bit...off.
Re: Elgato - Zone/Luv Zombie [HES020]
really don't remember feeling tonight/blue all that much, but...
anyone who doesn't like zone needs to smarten the fuck up. tune is boss, even if it's a bit weird.

i mite be in the minority but imo this is one of the best releases on hessle and i'm a hessle fanboy lol. it's such a grower but once it's grown it's so good. reminds me of maurizio or something with how it manages to do so much with so little, especially zone. tonight and blue have grown on me a hell of a lot too. elgato needs to release more!

Re: Elgato - Zone/Luv Zombie [HES020]
Comparing this to Maurizio? Seriously?
My main problem with this release, and most bass music in general, is that it's is way too clean. The sound is dead.
Everything is so polished and perfectly positioned in the mix that the sound is stripped of all of its life.
While Maurizio built his tracks on broken analog machines with a serious warmth and grit, this is just cold.
One might argue that the sound is intended as part of the minimal approach, but the result is dance music without drive or energy.

I get what your saying, I'm not for one suggesting that zone sounds like maurizio/basic channel/whatever (although I wouldn't call it clean and polished exactly). Maybe I should of used villalobos or something as an example instead. I was just referring to the minimalism of the track especially compared to a lot of the other hessle releases. it's hypnotic, not much happens but to me it maintains its interest throughout the track as the elements that are there work well together. I knew I'd be in the minority when I said what I said haha.q-t wrote:Comparing this to Maurizio? Seriously?

And the track might not have a lot of drive and energy but i think it's got lots of tension and it's stripped back so it works well to mix with. i've noticed a lot of people using it in the beginning of their sets, to me it's a brilliant dj tool.
although more i listen to the release i'm preferring luv zombie lol

Re: Elgato - Zone/Luv Zombie [HES020]
Alright, as a set opener I think it's decent and it sure is hypnotic (although I think most techno are much better at that).
Still don't get why the flip takes forever to drop. If it was intended as a DJ tool, it's better to have the bassline running from beginning to end. You can just EQ it out if you don't want it.

Re: Elgato - Zone/Luv Zombie [HES020]
maybe i'm overintellectualizing it but its kind of like him fucking with the traditional 'bass dropping at a 16 bar interval' structure of a lot of tracks. it's kick takes ages to come in, the main hook drops out pretty much halfway through, it doesn't do a lot of what other tracks in the genre do. which i thinks pretty cool.
i quite like how the bass drops in the middle soo much tension waiting for it, but i suppose i'm not a dj so i don't need to worry about where the bass drops lol
