I gotta side with Static on this one, it would piss me off if someone said to me that skrillex "basically defines the genre"

It's just the arrogance of these people that pisses me off. I consider myself fairly knowledgable on music as a whole, but I'm fully aware of my ignorance in just about every genre except hip hop and dubstep. There's no shame in not knowing everything about a genre you've only been listening to for a short time, it takes years to fully understand the history of any musical genre. If he thought that Skrillex defined the genre then conceded that he was wrong, nothing wrong with that. It's the pig-headed arrogance of continuing to argue, and to actually insult, someone who's obviously more clued-in about the genre that gets me. And to think the truth is only a wiki search away...

Yes like walking in on a izan convention with a Kippah, a long filthy beard and a copy of the Talmud. You won't survive here.

I see your point, and I'm sure there's no shortage of kids like that. But think about all the media coverage on skrillex vs el-b or skream's older stuff. More likely than not, the ones telling them what true dubstep is are hipsters just scoffing at them. They think it's what dubstep is because A, it's more likely than not all they've heard, and B, all they've seen through the eyes of the media.

Oh I'm not saying their ignorance is their fault, I'm saying their stubbornness is lol

omg, mind blowing "drop" at 2:58 ..it made me think of a re-invented definition of "drop", since it's not a "bass drop", it's a "dub echo drop"..

i recently made a dubstep playlist on youtube, describing what the word "dub" used to mean in dubstep, and why brostep has lost the dub ..and then trying to explain what dub is and that the most typical dub effect is those spacy echos..

spacey echoes are big but i think the most typical dub effect is the effect of using stems from reggae music

I just haven't seen any effect-machine with a "reggae effect" button ;) ..anyway i agree that it's some sort of reggae mood too, but it's not as easy to define.. i don't think it's just a bass riff and halftempo feel.. if it is, then the brosteppers are right..

What the hell was with merging threads in between posts that were already here? Shit hurt my brain.
