I'm really shit though. Been going for months, and still have no routine - I kind of just think about a body part and then tear around thinking it's working.
You go to the gym??? You're still like the skinniest person I know!
Have you even seen these tri-s? Or these bi-s?

Seriously, I'm waste. But I get even skinnier when I don't hit the gym. :Q:

EDIT: Also, I think you may have just hurt my feelings, bro. :(
Awww...don't be hurt. I like skinny guys too. :U:

You going for mass, yeah?
4-5 days a week. Yeah

You mean a decent split?

Monday Biceps/back
Tuesday chest/triceps
Wednesday rest
Thursday legs
Friday shoulders
Weekend: rest
I've been told that you need to switch up your routine every couple months, would changing the combination of body parts on different days class as changing the routine? or do I have to come up with a whole new workout with new excersises?

atm I do
Monday: chest and shoulders
Tuesday: Legs and Abs
Wednesday: Back and Forearms
Thursday: Chest and Shoulders
Friday: Biceps and Triceps

The second day of chest and shoulders is different excersises, so for example instead of incline press I'll do decline
Incremental changes are fine. If oyu don't want to do a completely different routine, change your set/reps and the order of your exercises. Instead of a 5x5, do a 3x8 one, etc.

I also wouldn't do biceps and triceps on the same day, those muscles are meant to stablize each other. I'd split the forearms over a couple of days (pulling on the day you do biceps, pushing when you do triceps). Or you could increase the thickness of your grip by putting a towell on the barbell and grab that, that exercises your forearms too.

I'd do abs twice a week, at the end of your gym session on.. Monday and Friday. And do give yourself some rest on Wednesday!

I'd suggest doing the split I suggested after your week off and see how you like it. I'm willing to bet it's going to be a lot harder because you got so used to your current routine. I'm doing a new routine myself starting today and I was TERRIBLE. And I'm on a cut which doesn't help either.

I disagree with this - biceps & triceps can be worked together well, especially if you're supersetting the exercises to cover both in one circuit.

Fair enough. Different strokes for different folks, but it hasn't worked well for me in the past (though it should help in theory, since tiring out one muscle group makes you put me pressure on the other). Anyone's best bet is just to figure out what works best for them I suppose.

thanks for the advice. Would you say a weeks rest is essential?

What I'm worried about is going from doing 2 days of chest and shoulders to 1. Won't I see slower gains?

The forearms only have a few excersises so will probably do them on the day I do legs otherwise my arms feel well tired

It's important to let give your body some rest once in a while to take the edge off. Rest is waay more important than the workout, tbh. Do a routine for 8 to 12 weeks, then take rest for a week or two and do a new routine. Try different shit, etc. You won't know your routine sucks until you're well into it, but you'll always make gains and working out isn't a race to the finish, you really do need to take time.

And maybe you'll see slower gains and.. maybe not. Maybe you need that extra rest so you can work your shoulders and chest harder... or maybe that part of your body doesn't need that rest and it's better off being worked out twice a week. OR MAYBE, only your shoulders need once a week or your chest twice. Who knows. This is also part of why changing your routine is a good idea, it's the only way to make sure what works for you.

If you're getting an increase every week though, you're doing something right. But even then... you may not be exercising muscles as much as cordination so you may be gaining strength, but no mass!

Edit: my general logic is. You rest and eat more frequently than you work out.. I mean, you sleep a good 7 - 8 hours in ONE NIGHT. Which is already twice as much as how much you should workout PER WEEK. So what's more important? Same with food. You exercise 3 or 4 times per week but you eat 5 or 6 times per day. Exercise is a ... stimulation. And giving the right stimulation is of course important, but what's more important is what you do WITH that stimulation.

Also never use 'Real Gains' by Universal. That shit is bloating me up like a muthafucka. It's like a French swamp in WWI down there. Fuck.

Worthwhile bump, btw.

Isn't that the guy who had the documentary "the man who's bicep exploded"? He reused so many dirty needles while doing steroids that his bicep literally exploded after so many bad infections.
