at the same time if you're feeling the strain of trying to make changes and shit, don't be afraid to reach out and ask for help whether it's from doctors or friends or anything. one of the worst parts of depression is how it cuts you off from seeking help cos of self-esteem issues, negativity or just being scared or hard on yourself. plus if you're making the changes and things still aren't getting better, again, reach out :)

i need to do exercise too, badly. i have this rule where i leave the house every day, even if it's just for a walk (that sounds soooo lame), but i haven't recently because i got a cold ":(" but i definitely feel distinctly more shit already.

i hate how terrified i am of my mood getting off kilter, if i feel sad for a bit or whatever i'll start getting scared and worried and shit. it's bad. but i guess better than being sort of resigned to it and going out and trashing my body/ getting into dangerous situations because i don't care :corndance:
AMEN Bro!!!! I've locked myself away for the past year and I hate my life!!! I am honestly a very very social person but this depression shit just causes me to not wanna see ANYONE!! It sucks. Then when I'm forced to be around my family I'm all shitty. Thats another thing I'm gonna do is get back out and hang w/ people. I just gotta be careful not to kick it w/ drug people cuz I can't get caught up in that again, but for real I think Im over that stuff. It did so much perm damage to my life that the thought of doing drugs fucking pisses me off! But ya, Ima get on these changes

Seeming as this seems to be a font of all knowledge concerning depression I've got a question.

Has anyone got any tips for coping with loneliness? I'm not talking sit at home on your own loneliness, even if I'm out with a big group of mates i tend to feel totally isolated from everyone and it's really pushing me in to a hole.

Any ninja advice would be great, I don't want to be a miserable loner :w:

Used to get this all the time myself.
Sit in a room full of people and still feel completely alone, it really is horrible.
I found being in smaller groups or just having one friend around would take that feeling right down. I know you can't say to your friends 'go away some of you, I feel weird with loads of you around', but maybe meet up with just smaller groups of people and see how you feel. Gradually increase the number of people one at a time until you feel comfortable.
Hopefully that'll help :w:

i think it all boils down to who you're with and where. I'm sometimes like that when i'm with a new crowd of people in a busy place like a pub or something. unless i know everyone i'm much more comfortable and able to talk in smaller crowds.

maybe you just need to either go to different places with your mates, or just spend more time with just a few of em Like BNanni said. Group 'dynamics' are a strange thing, especially when you're aware of them and how they change depending on what you're doing and numbers.

learn to be content with yourself first ,and contribute when you feel the need to. It could just be you're after a different vibe all together, in which case, go to the places/events that you yourself want to and you'll feel more comfortable/less lonely. Don't stress about it too much though, next time it happens, just agree that you'll sit there content even if you feel isolated from the group.

Oddly enough, the more content you feel to not feel pressurized to be doing or saying anything , the more likely you'll find it easier to interact anyway.

yeah pick a close friend(s) that you can talk to. i think the loneliness often stems from the feeling bad, the sense that no one realises how shit you feel and everyone else is happy just makes you feel cut off. so just letting someone (who's not a tnuc) know how you feel can really make you feel a lot better - you might find that they can relate a lot more than you thought.

Feeling alone is one of the worst feelings, iv had it a fair bit trying to adjust in london. It seems to start when your already down about something else in the first place so try and solve the root of the problem first maybe. Normally can come from being tired/ on a comedown/ being drunk where your not actually interacting with the group to a level where anyone really feels they can hold a conversation with you. It always passes though dont worry about it

Can't stress enough how important this is. With an old group of friends I would sit there feeling extremely isolated and stressed. Once I met new group of friends at nights and on here, suddenly the daunting feeling of big groups/isolation decreased dramatically.
I still had to start out with just a few friends at a time, but now I feel comfortable enough to sit around 15+ people without any worry.

I think is part of the issue for me, most of my old friends have very different interests to mine, they all like rugby and drinking songs. I like spliffs and reggae.

I need to meet more like minded people i think

Thanks for the advise guys :U: :w:

^^ come say hi next time (dubfordessert too!). You get the triple-whammy of good music, good people and enough volume that you can communicate in smiles alone if you don't feel like you want to get into it with people.

Everyone I've ever met off here has been utterly, utterly sound. Well, apart from Wub, obviously. :6: :w: :U:

Fuck knows the official answer.

Just smoked a fatty so here's some drivel anyway

My observations though: There's a big difference between wallow and sorrow. Some say creativity is the essence of life... I've seen anti-depressants sap this resource from a lot of people. Also communication is important to creativity. Assess how communication is affected first. There's a poem called "The Hollow Men" I always kind of felt addressed this mentality...

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow

Anti-depressants roughly use chemistry to balance someone out in the mental department. Eccentricity itself is about fluctuations of this balance. There's a lot of evidence [in terms of looking through successfully creative chaps etc] that embracing this is probably a better choice than discouraging it. How can you live life with the volume constantly set to 5? Sometimes you need silence, sometimes it's just gotta spin right up to eleven.

To use the last stanza of that poem as a dramatic conclusion:

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Depression is a lesson. Don't shut yourself off from one of life's most important teachers!
