Thanks xGhozt and dougriley.

I agree with what you both have posted.
I think my biggest problem is that there is in fact too much going on so many of the changes are missed.
I need to strip down some percussion to allow changes.

Electric_HEAD= the intro is massive! my sub is raping my house ha, i must say im not sure what goes into making this sort of ambient bass + beats, whatever you want to call it, but its way sick! Also those delay type effects are sick!

Dougriley= when i first looked at your waveform i was going to cry, but then i played it, this is dope! Massive sub-bass, almost sounds exisiony - wonderful idea

ZankUSA= fucking awesome sample, really dope, wheres that from? I've never heard it, Unique sound ^-^

Been a while since i've been active here on DSF, been working on a song i guess you could call it, more of an experiment, as in drums and a lead synth (layered of course).
It is indeed un-EQ'd at the moment, but i thought it was cool xD what ya think?

EDIT: I Eq'd it, im not sure how well :P though

@elyhess Really cool work. Obviously add more synths. That's sounds like a good solid foundation for a song.

@dougriley Not really good with this sort of dark stuff but that was a sick vibe. Drums are brilliant (maybe too much reverb on the clap), the bass is brilliant. Like I said, not good with feedback for this style.

@mtl6 Beautiful drums. Can't see anything wrong with the sound engineering but maybe vary the song a little to make it interesting. Saying that, the section where more hihats come in is pretty interesting. Keep working on this.

Right, so I changed up my previous song as, upon further research, it was basically a carbon copy of Got 2 Know. I've tried to make it unique but keeping that Flux Pavillion style to it. Whadd'ya think?

electric head- really nice production. the track def has a overall vibe and cohesion, which means you hit the mark. not exactly my taste, but well done none the less.

elyhess, something- this is an interesting riff/production. it seems like a real house/dance feel. check the gain structure, things seemed a little distorted in a bad way. but i could see that as a foundation for a track or possibly a nice intro or change up. work on its sound though.

doug riley- thats a cool, dark piece of a track. i like it. kick and snare hit well. just really nice. like the reverse suck in bass hit in there....

so here is a track i have been working on lately. i have a background in hip hop production and i think it comes out a bit....but anyhuuu. check it out. thanks.

I love the feel of this track. The build up was spot on, at the climatic bits were really fitting. I feel like the kick, the snare, and the hats really add to the track without being overpowering. Everything just mellows out perfectly for me. No suggestions from me other than keep up the good work.

@thelastthing
Your kick and snare really get lost behind your synths. You should try cutting out frequencies that don't really come through. Lower a bit of the sounds, and get some more punch on your kick, either by eqing or layering it. Because of the current mixdown, it's hard to feel the climatic bits, so just work on cleaning that up. Good work so far.

@Electric_Head
The vibe man, it's there. My only real criticism with the track is that it's a bit repetitive. Throw in some gradual progressions with different synths, and fx to make it more interesting. You've got something really nice though, and I'd love to hear the finished product.

@GuitarJon
The synths in the track feel a bit dry, and the build up could use some more, well, build up. Great variation of synths, and the vocals are a nice touch. It wouldn't hurt for the kick to be louder, in my opinion. I look forward to hearing more.

---

Well, I'm back again with a new "track". This one, I think, I might actually finish. A couple of the synths after the drop could use a bit of work. I don't feel they particularly meld with the rest, but I've gotten mixed views on it. I've mastered it to the best of my abilities (not much), and my mix down is pretty decent, but I suppose only as decent as my broken headset will allow. Let me know what y'all think about it.

xGhozt - not a bad track
the percussion could be a bit louder
1:00 midrange I don`t like at all
1:10 or so when it kicks in, everything sounds more coherent and well written

@ twilight – you have a solid foundation for a track. There just needs to be way more going on to give it more energy. I would love to hear some crunchy shaker or hi hit on the eighth notes or some other kind of percussion to breathe some life into the track. But what you have is a good start.

@ livingtragedy – damn you could have fooled me and said that was an unmastered flux track. Everything is pretty spot on but I think your snare could use a little more presence in the mix… either by sidechaining or just boosting the levels, not really sure. Would maybe like to hear some more percussive elements to give it more groove. Really like this though and would like to hear the final mix

Cranked this WIP out in a couple hours today, very inspired by this future garage sound I’m hearing a lot of lately. Let me know what you guys think.

ghost- that track was sweet when it dropped. i would continue to revise and tweak the post drop section, but it seems to be headed in the proper direction. I am not a huge fan of the intro. for my tastes i would differ the main riff in the intro a bit. maybe you make it another instrument or synth patch? or you could change it through effects to give it some character. it just sounds too plain.
so there is my 2 cents. i would def finish the track. just keep on tweakin until you only make it worse, than you know your done. at least thats my m. o.

thanks for any feedback on my track(s) in advance. peace.

@XGhost I really like it. The mix is good I think. Keep that song going for sure. The intro is a little long I think.

@Electric_Head I love your stuff. This song is great. I like those vocals and the airyness of some parts. Good vibes.

@Kaimera Sounds great man. All around a good track really. The second drop is amazing in my opinion. It goes so perfectly with the song.

So I just started using FM8 and it has been the hardest thing to learn. I am finally learning my way around it and I can make some cool sounds now. So here is the first song I have done with just FM8.

mtl6, good start, i like the fuck you sample, but it needs some more variation obviously. try to make your drums switches come quicker. needs to evolve more. also id try to eq and compress that main organ a bit more to sit better its too bright right now IMO

dougrily, very sick start, i actually find this original. loving all the reverb tbh. not much to say except I'm loving it!

docrasta i dig all the glitchy stuff but that my-first-wobble has got to GO!! u gotta filter and eq that thing and add a better sub to it if u wanna leave it.

@ gaol , pretty triply vocal cut ups! , i like your drum arrangements , and the structure is nice, bass sounds a bit dated and lack a even sub bass, what i mean is the level of the subs don't all sound the same, and the sub bass could be a bit louder and warmer,

@ ghozt , theres some harsh high freqs in the intro man, like the melody build up, not really my sort of track so can't comment to much, but i would say that you could do a lot more with the drums, space them out a bit, and the bass sounds could do with a lil work,

@ docrasta , yea man the feel of this tune, buzzy as fuck, some really weird sounds you have going on in there, i don't like the main bass sound, if that was a bit more original it would be mint, nice production cuz, keep at it

@ living Tragd , really not my thing, can't stand those high screechy bass sounds, drums are nice and punchy, and i really do like the overall melody of the tune, if the bass sounds were top notch would be a big tune, reminds me of filth collins a bit

Here is our latest WIP, stepping up from the minimal sound to some thing a lil heavier but still pretty dark..

@ boring... thanks for the feedback. yeah, before you replied to that, that was the feeling i was having too. really, deciding whether to let the buzzy growl melody ride in front or the 'my first wobble' take the lead. well, i backed off the simple wobble and broke it up a bit and shifted it back in the mix. here is the new version. this was before getting any feedback. i will sit on it for a bit, but perhaps the next step for this track may be trying to make that simple bass a bit more interesting.
i kept it simple to juxtapose the growling melody, so i don't wanna just distort it or the shit will all mesh. but anyway, thats prolly where ill go with it.

@ darkdubz.... yeah, im sure you read the above reply, so i think that relates a bit to your suggestion. and its funny cause that was the exact thing my friend said when he heard it last night. so like i said, check out the newer version if you would, thats the direction ima head.

as far as your track....

i like the sample from taken. nice. ok nice beat drop. got a cool vibe, lil arp action?
yeah, the track is nice man. i think its prolly exactly what you were shootin for. for my taste i woulda liked to see some bass come in a bit more, but nice track no doubt.

appreciate all the feedback. love talkin shop.

@living tragedy - basses seem a bit harsh, i'd eq them a bit more. the snare seems to get drowned out. my only suggestion is avoid those basses all together... they've been done way to much, unless you can add something new to it.

@mtl6 - very smooth sounding. my only suggestion on this is variate that main riff a bit, sounds good just kinda keeps going. overall mix sounds nice.

@gaol - very interesting combination sounds. happy, an hard at the same time. synth work sounds legit, maybe just some fine tuning on the midrange on some of those sounds. good start for sure. might suggest some risers and sweeps an such.

@Darkdubs - intro is evil yo. i'd delay the i'll kil you part, so it tails into the good luck part. maybe add a bit of distortion to the good luck part. drop is very nice. basses sit well with your percussion. the subtle hand drum additions accent quite well. very good work on this. keep it up man.

@drocrasta - the sub came off a bit strong on my end. very cool synths in this. ambiance in this is also really nice. only complaint is that sub is a bit strong. cool vibes in this though.

well, my newest wip is a slower dub approach using reese bass... been tryn to get everything sitting right on the sub end. what do you guys think, don't mind the structure i haven't spent much time on that yet.

Unmastered. Do you think the music needs to be EQ'd where the vocals come in?
Are the vocals too loud? Any comments appreciated.

@jimbeaux.... nice start to a track. i would say to switch the drum track up a bit for when the bass comes in and starts to modulate. the rest of the production other than the reese sounds quite minimal. so if that was the aim you hit it right on.

as far as the sub goes, i agree, that is on my new list of tweaks for the next version of that one. thanks for your time.

p.s. check out track in my sig, if you get a chance.

@docrasta i like this experimental sound a lot. try modulating the wobbles a little bit more to add some flavor. the vocals could do with a little less distortion and maybe some more prominence in the mix.

@lordrub needs some more sub, like it so far though!

@darkdubz no complaints here, sounds like you really know what you're doing. keep posting updates!

here's a new one i'm working on (in signature). 3 days in now i think i've definitely made a bit of progress. c&c appreciated!

edit: yay 100 posts, proper 100th post I think :)

I think your track has potential. It seems like a solid foundation. It is just screaming to me to get broken up a bit. Has a nice bounce.

@LukeRaith gotta let you go is nice mate. like the sample. maybe bring it to the front of the mix. sick track

@subfect nicely done mate. sounds crisp. really like the drum sound. wouldn't mind a copy of the finished version to be honest.

@InTheCrowd - liking the vibe of this. if it were me i would change the kick and snare samples. i think they spoil it a little. love this sort of thing. nice track

@dougriley deep vibes. love that little rip that comes in at 0.51. cool shit

@Standby Nice chilled out sound / vibe, sounding awesome, loving the weird sound at 1:25 that comes in!

@Docrasta: Intro's really fucking creepy man haha, feels a bit disjointed at the beginning, but it kindda works with the song? haha, I dunno man, sounds good

@jimbeaux: Sub's sounding sick brah, I would make the drums more punchy and louder, especially them there snares and kicks.

My latest WIP, appreciate feedback a lot guys :)
