KAHN (Punch Drunk / Box Clever/ Peng Sound)
We've been backing Kahn for a few years now, (this being his third visit to Exeter), but this last year or so has really seen him making big moves in the scene, getting picked up by Peverelist's legendary Bristol label, Punch Drunk. He quickly followed up his huge debut vinyl "Like we used to/Helter Skelter" with "Way Mi Defend/Azalea", on Box Clever (which has been getting dj support from Mala, amongst others). He's since returned to Punch Drunk for another massive dubstep release in the shape of Illy/Tehran. Other notable tunes include his rework of Altar, featuring Jasmine Butt's beautiful vocals and a heavyweight remix of Superisk's "Find Your Way" and Find Jah Way (by Gorgon Sound- Kahn & Neek), as well as some devastating remixes of tracks from Joker, Killa P & Badness, Daddy Freddy and Bristol hiphop crew SE fire. His tunes vary from upfront synthy dubstep to deeper, dubbier dubstep cuts, to future garage and grime. His mix on Wedge's epic annual Christmas radio show (Dec 2011) held its own, if not stole the show, amongst a who's who of Bristol's massive bass music scene, featuring Joker, Arkist, Appleblim, Pinch & many more- testament to Kahn's production and DJ skills. And with Find Jah Way selling out almost instantly, 2012 is already proving to be a big year for Kahn. Watch out!
DISTAL
On tour from Atlanta, U.S.!
(Soul Jazz Records/ Tectonic/ Tube 10/ Trouble & Bass...)
Atlanta based producer, Distal, has been making waves in the bass music scene since his first vinyl release, "Grape Donut" on the legendary Soul Jazz Records in 2010. He's since had almost a dozen 12" releases and that many more digital releases over the last 2 years, culminating in his recent 14 track album, "Civilization" on one of dubstep's genre defining labels, Tectonic (run by one of Distal's idols, Pinch). Other labels he's released on include: Well Rounded (the "Stuck Up Money" EP, co-produced with juke bastion DJ Rashad), Starkey's "Seclusiasis" imprint, his own Embassy Records, Tube 10 Holland, Trouble & Bass, Grizzly, Rogue Dubs, Car Crash Set, Fortified, Surefire and Frite Nite. His productions lurch between 120-160bpm and feature a wide array of moods and rhythms, drawing upon influences from techno, dubstep, early hardcore, jungle and juke.
