My First Shot At Dubstep [ Starry Eyed Remix ]

Post by slaybrahamlincoln » Sun May 13, 2012 1:16 pm

Hey guys,

Was a rap producer a long time ago, i write software now and I just started trying to produce dubstep.

Any critiques would be helpful from sound design to mastering to general formatting. I'm looking to get better at this, so be honest.

I like the intro, but the high pitched sounds at the drop get annoying after a while. I can certainly tell the rap influence. I would pump up the snare, maybe add a more dynamic sub. I LOVE your vocal cuts, I wish I could learn how to do them like that. A good start!

Dude thanks so much for the response. It definitely needs mixing/mastering work, and I agree the squeak is a bit much after a while. The vocal cuts we're out of necessity so that it matched up with the arrangement. Half of the magic was just having a decent acapella to start with.

This tracks intro is fucking sick, I love it. I also like the cello-picking part or whatever you call it, haha. I would like a little more bass drops or wobbles on the chorus, but that's all really. Great work by sampling the singing too! Keep Rockin!

I like it!! Really good work with the melodies I know a lot of people first time round (myself included) will neglect the tunefulness of the song a little but you haven't done that, which I like!! Only thing I would say is that your drop could do with being heavier and the lead synth could also do with a bit more punch but other than that good work mate, keep it up!
