What Equipment?

Post by Murka07 » Sun May 20, 2012 10:55 am

I started mixing about half a year ago, dubstep and dnb and other stuff. Anyway, i got a numark mixtrack pro, and i grew out of it in about 4 months, and now im totally limited by it, and the software i use with it (VDJ 7). Sooo, i was wondering if you guys could give me some advice to which mixers/cdj would be good. I have a fairly good budget, but if you could give ones one both good and high prioce ranges that would be cool.

I'm not that educated about what is actually possible to do with a more advanced mixer/dcj, but i need better looping control, better EQs, more/better effects...pretty much better everything than the numark...I wanna be able to like fade out the voices of songs so i can work with the beat and mix in something else.

thanks a lot guys!

i got CDJ200's late last year, old model pioneers, but im yet too see an issue with them, when i look at mixing/djing, i prefer tune selection and mix choices rather than fancy effects, based on that, i don't think i can help you.

as far as CDJ's go, i think it would be safe in recommending pioneers.. mixers, someone else might be able too shed some light.

If you just want tons of effects and looping options, it might be worth upgrading to traktor or Serato and finding a controller that meets your needs. The looping functions on most cdjs/mixers are fairly basic.

If you can afford it I'd get some cdj 850s with one of the newer model mixers with USB input (A&H, Rane, Pioneer) that will work with traktor or Serato.

As far as mixers go, assuming you want to buy new and only need 2 channels, i'd recommend the Allen & Heath Xone:22.
For only £250 new they are an absolute steal. Had mine for about 10 months i think. So much bang for your buck.

Can't advise on CDJ's though im afraid. I've never used em.

Edit - Probably would have been better posting this in the Production, Hardware & Technical section.

Yeah i've been looking at the A&H xone 22. but it would be nice to have more than 2 channels, so i can mix 2 songs and sample from another. i have traktor pro 2 but it doesn't work with my numark for some reason... which is why im usign vdj 7 instead.

what about the Behringer DDM4000 DJ Mixer?

thanks guys!

All that melts away when the lights are down and the bass is up.

stay away from Behringer.

Xone 33 is bang on for you imo....

If you have the monies, go for Pioneer CDJ800s / 1000s - they are club standards.

Traktor has good loop control and more than decent effects.

For a mixer you can go with A&H, Pioneer, Ecler, Rance etc..

Yeah zone:33 is probably for you if you're after more than 2 channels. Never used one but I'd assume its essentially the 22s big brother, which isn't a bad thing.

Yeah you will need a sound card if you want to record mixes on a laptop/PC

if your skint, just find a pair of dinner plates, a shoebox, some string & a cup....

place the plates eitherside of the shoe box, then attach one end of the string to the cup, and the other to the shoe box.

and there you go, next superstar dj

I'm just getting into DJing and i appreciate all the help i can get, while trying to learn at the same time, and i don't understand why people make those comments. Are you guys really that scared of competition/insecure, or whatever, that you don't wanna help others?

anyway, i read that firewire sound cards are better because their faster and more reliable?
