Genevieve; http://pricewatch.tweakers.net/
Lots of info on that site and a good forum!
Also Windows8 is going to be cheaper than Windows 7 because they are dropping some built-in support for expensive licensed technology (for instance; you will not be able to play DVD's with WMP anymore).

Give GV1 a shout ! He'll help you...oh wait.
Re: Putting together a new pc
OH yeah, I'm already checking tweakers to get the cheapest parts. I only use alternate as my 'shopping basket' and I'll get the cheapest parts from other places. My pc is currently 815 euros and I can probably get it down to 790 when I'm actually getting it. If not less.NilsFG wrote:Genevieve; http://pricewatch.tweakers.net/

It'll still be able to play DVDs on other aps though, right? Just hope windows will release an upgrade from 7 to 8 cuz I'm getting the pc by the end of next week.

Yeah ofcourse you can play it with other apps. VLC player ftw
Re: Putting together a new pc
Only speaking for xp pro versus home, the pro os is easier to work with, a whole slew of little workflow kind of things. Can't really say. I too was like f that, I'm not paying for pro, but then working between a pro and a home system, the pro was just easier to work with. Worst part is you know that they made the home naggy, like they created barriers just so the home was not as efficient as the pro. I don't know what the deal is with 7 or even 8 for that matter, in this regard. Only occasionally use a 7 system.Genevieve wrote:In what way is 'pro' better than 'home'? I thought it was just additional features that I can do without?
How does touch improve production? :0
Re touch... seems self explanatory to me. Just having one point of contact with your entire (virtual) studio (mouse) is slow, unmusical. With multitouch, it is just faster, more efficient, and more closely resembles the way we normally work with objects in real space, so is more musical. For me at least. More ears, less eyes, always a good thing when working with the music.
Re: Putting together a new pc
Yeaah I use Renoise so I don't think it has AS many benefits for me. Keyboard's working rather fine!

I see the future of production getting dubbier
when you can more fully play your whole studio as an instrument good things happen. The apc40 is a great example of that, but even that is just a few mapped controls, when everything is immediate and tangible, then you are at the controls of the rocket ship, destination.. UNKNOWN (major drama!).
Re: Putting together a new pc
Oh yeah totally, full integration of hardware into software. Especially as computers get more powerful, which enables hardware to get cheaper.

Just put it all together and it's runnin' smoooooooooooooooooooooooth. And silent, wow.
Edit: While we at it, anyone know a decent of way of copying a huge number of files from one drive to another without damaging any?

If possible break it into smaller chunks. It's possible that the problem you were experiencing before might have had to do with a system time-out or something like that.Genevieve wrote:Last time I did that a number of tunes got damaged... If your going to have over 4 GB of RAM then its is essential that you install windows 7 (edition) 64bit version, because the 32bit version only supports up to 4 GB due to the 32 bit system's architecture.
