Re: APC40 DJing
yeah, yours is more what i really want to do but I just don't have the material or need for it now
anyway after playing with the ill gates one more there's a lot i don't like and some of it may be my unfamiliarity with ableton since im new to it but
the fx mapping is horrible. like, ridiculous and theres no wet/dry knob, its full blast and idk i could go deeper but it's just bad
there's no need for a hipass and lowpass filter. two knobs are wasted because there's two of each. one knob should be a high and low pass like in traktor where centered is default and go right its hi and left it's low
can't think of any more off the top of my head but it seems like it's more for making tracks sound cool than actually djing and blending two tracks together. this might be more of my lack of experience with ableton and cueing with it and whatever but it shouldnt be this hard

i also don't like how the vu meters are relative to the crossfader. i want to know how loud something is going to be before i fade over without looking at my laptop
Re: APC40 DJing
How do you guys deal w/ tempo when mixing a set w/ live?
Do you stay at one tempo the entire time? One set tempo for a range/genre of tunes; adjusting between different genres? Fine-Adjust with the tempo knob over a period of time? Or beatmatching a 40 bpm difference from dubstep to triphop seamlessly like a boss? lol. I found you can definitely stay in a certain range and have it sound fine w/ the warps etc. I also made some dummy clips for automation that will alter my tempo smoothly depending on how i set the clip, which is pretty nice. But i'm not sure when is the best time to use it. I feel like this is an aspect of dj'ing that isn't talked about much.

Re: APC40 DJing
The fact that this even makes sense is kind of strange. It's not that different from djing with a spareOfficialDAPT wrote:Long story short I have an APC40 and I want to start DJing.
keyboard really.
Or are we actually talking about using Ableton or whatever to present music to an audience?

Maybe you shouldn't take my sentences out of context. The apc40 is made and only works with ableton pretty much.AxeD wrote:The fact that this even makes sense is kind of strange. Re: APC40 DJing
just got traktor 2.5
it has remix decks that look similar to ableton's clips
gonna have a go at mapping them to work the same way
trakbleton anyone?

Re: APC40 DJing
you can't use all the remix decks functions without a F1 controller, sadly. Otherwise, I'd be clip djing with maschinemikeyp wrote:just got traktor 2.5

Re: APC40 DJing
Neither did I, but I heard you can load up tracks on the fly to any of the pads. Can't do that in Ableton.mikeyp wrote:damnHircine wrote:you can't use all the remix decks functions without a F1 controller, sadly. Otherwise, I'd be clip djing with maschinemikeyp wrote:just got traktor 2.5

Re: APC40 DJing
I'm boycotting 2.5, but I never actually tried it. I figured the new functions take away from
actual djing.
