Bok Bok had a one-off a few weeks ago, but it looks like they are off the regular rotation (http://rinse.fm/timetable). totally understandable considering how busy those guys must be, but still a shame if it is true. i discovered rinse through that show when night slugs first got on the schedule a few years ago. i would love to track down some of those early podcasts. introduced me to a totally different sound than i was used to at the timeAmantus wrote:I always lock in to The Clairvoyants, dBridge, Flight, Swamp 81, Youngsta, Numbers and usually Mark Radford and Shogun Audio as well. Would be pretty gutted if any of those were dropped.
Have Night Slugs been dropped? Haven't seen any podcasts up for a while.

Well, we dont play brostep/wobble and we only play a bit of the halfstep/dungeon sound (I like it but a lot of it is very similar and most of it is beholden to Loefah/D1/Skream/Yunx of '04-06), so perhaps we don't play "dubstep 2012" per se, but I like to think we've kept the spirit of that mid dubstep period going.codeStep wrote:Dunno if I'd class dusk and blackdown as dubstep, they should be kept though.
This is pretty much why i listen to every show, loads of new music from new people. I like some of it, some i dont, exactly how it should be.blackdown wrote:Well, we dont play brostep/wobble and we only play a bit of the halfstep/dungeon sound (I like it but a lot of it is very similar and most of it is beholden to Loefah/D1/Skream/Yunx of '04-06), so perhaps we don't play "dubstep 2012" per se, but I like to think we've kept the spirit of that mid dubstep period going.codeStep wrote:Dunno if I'd class dusk and blackdown as dubstep, they should be kept though.
What was great about the DMZ/FWD/04-06 time was that there was a collective commitment to a freedom to experiment around dark 138ish textures. I like to think of dubstep of being a spirit of edgy creativity around a tempo and in that sense we've stayed true to that, it's just that some of the bpms have dropped (to 130bpm, mostly). When Dusk and I got into what is now called dubstep it was 2000, when El-B, Zed Bias, Artwork, Steve Gurley and all them guys were making garage-but-darker and I dont see much difference now.
Our show Rinse has been running four years now - every show is archived here for download - and while I'm sure we dont get the hype that the station's big DJs get, I'm increasingly convinced the role of our show is to investigate new possibilities and break new artists. While we're happy to support them, most of the big guys don't need our help now, they've got their own momentum. So the show - for the listeners and the producers who contribute to it (though this is increasingly blurred) - is for those hungry for the new.
Given that we try and make every single Rinse show sacred. Because it is: it's Rinse. It's fucking rinse dot fm, one hundred point three on your FM dial...

All that melts away when the lights are down and the bass is up.
