it's synced with users' facebook accts, therefore is the image-sharing site with the least anonymity and the most filtration. I think it's a heaping pile of shit but if you're the type who wants everything you do automatically posted to fb, and you never want to see a pair of tits again, then i reckon 9gags the image site for you

not even a comparison... i'd call Reddit "4chan-lite" if anything is. you aren't truly anon if you register and post, but it's just a username like here. It still gives people a sense of pride/shame in what they post or rate, and that affects the way people talk or the content they post. Still it has a decent level of anonymity where people are very open, but they care more about being accepted, whereas at 4chan we know that doesn't matter one bit.

9gag is the total complete opposite-- it's synced with your real-life internet identification page. Everything you laugh at, thumbs-up, post or share is revealed to the world. All the users care about is acceptance. They stay away from graphic or offensive content because laughing at that stuff in public is frowned upon.

Sure 4chan is a cesspool, and a lot of revolting, boring, irrelevant or otherwise undesirable content comes out of it, but its environment also spawned the funniest shit that's trickled down to the other image sites. Also 4chan's format and functionality is better than any of the others tbh. simple, effective, unapologetic and unforgiving.

Reddit is like that too, but it's a closed system. Linking to your facebook to me seems really stupid. But i generally think blurring the lines between IRL and online is stupid. I cringe whenever i see people posting physical copies of memes or whatever on bulletin boards, walls, t shirts etc. I don't want to share my image browsing with my IRL network. The people who do that kind of shit ..i kinda think they need to grow up/ get a life that exists independently of the web.

Also anyone heard about the The Oatmeal vs FunnyJunk thing?

Basicly funnyjunk is as cancerous as 9gag, and lots of comics etc from The Oatmeal got posted on there.
Guy from The Oatmeal didn't like it as they always stripped away credits to him (just like they do with basicly every comic that gets posted on FJ, 9Gag, ...).
So he publicly informed FJ to take down his material because it's uncredited and pretty much "stolen" content. They took it off the site and all was good.
Now the guy from The Oatmeal was contacted by a lawyer from FJ to give them $20000 because of defamation.

So now he set up this thing for donations, hoping to get $20k so he could take a picture of it, send the picture to the lawyer and then donate all the money to charity.
After 1 day he already made $100k and donations are at $150k now
