The vast majority of 'deep house' has absolutely no depth to it either

Re: Post your unpopular opinions.. NSFW
I think the problem is that people are boiling it down to styles/sounds/subgenres now, "dungeon" stuff is nothing new it's just dark dubstep, people been doing that for years, its only when the term dungeon started getting thrown about that people started complaining so much about it getting stale, same goes for all this house/bass music/swamp kinda stuff, this is nothing new.
as a result you see people writing off "dungeon" or "bass music" because a few too many people have made tunes that sound the same, as if being derivative and generic doesn't happen IN EVERY GENRE EVER!!!
fwiw I enjoy "dungeon" and "bass music" but i too agree that they can be a bit stale from time to time, this is the fault of the individual producers though and isn't really grounds to write off entire styles/subgenres, its not far removed from people writing off dubstep as a whole because they've heard a couple of skrillex tunes and didnt like them

It's that damn word DUBSTEP.
The blanket term of the century.

Deep is just what people use to describe boring tunes so people will think they're cool and ignore the fact they're boring

Deep extends to all genres, not just Dubstep.
Surprised no-one has tried Deep Garage yet.

Otherwise you wouldn't get arguments like "you don't get it"... unless they're talking about not being able to hear certain frequencies.

My latest tune is Jenga step.
Because I like Jenga and don't want to be labeled as dubstep.
Deep Jenga step

I wouldn't use Blawan as your example. If you see him dj he plays straight up Techno. It's not pretend techno for dubstep heads.ultraspatial wrote:thisgarethom wrote:Totally agree. swamp81 lost it's attractivity because it got so stale and generic.
I'm done with swamp81 tbh. Don't care for that label and style. Never got the hype about those Boddika & Joy O tunes. Overly overrated imo.
And what's the deal with all this wannabe techno a la Blawan. It's like Downwards stuff for people who aren't into techno and don't want to like dubstep.
Just as annoying as brostep imho.
Anyway, enough with the negativity on my part. There's a lot of good stuff out there too, and I'd be a hypocrite to say I don't enjoy some of it. I just think it's a shame things went down this route.

to an extent (beyond obvious pop caricaturing of a style) i don't really get the "x music is fake y for z". i mean is it identifiable as using a genre's conventions or not?

I don't see how people can talk about Blawan as a Dubstep producer trying to make Techno...? How is what he makes in any way Dubstep? How can he be 'wannbe techno'?

Not really dubstep heads. More like people who are into "bass music" or whatever. Lately I've seen he started playing more techno. Saw him dj too. House & techno mostly, though really really boring. Was one of the most boring nights I've ever been to.wolf89 wrote:I wouldn't use Blawan as your example. If you see him dj he plays straight up Techno. Didn't want to say that it's fake techno or that he makes dubstep (though I've heard people say that... for some reason), more like that's the crowd he appeals mostly to.
Re: Post your unpopular opinions.. NSFW
then maybe you're the one who's 'wannbe techno' but haven't been educated enough to appreciate the deeper stuff. ha
Re: Post your unpopular opinions.. NSFW
@Ultraspacial
This is techno as far as I'm concerned. I can't really see what point you're making. It actually is techno. Not hipster bass music stuff for hipsters to pretend is techno.

I'll tell you what annoys me: everyone complaining about every single genre being stale and uninteresting. It's cliché, but if you don't like it then don't listen to it. Or infact, if you don't like it, don't write 400 posts on dubstepforum telling everyone how much you don't like it.
Instead maybe try pushing some music which you find fresh and exciting- or i dunno, make some of your own stuff.
