Theres a lot of incredible tunes that could be very very easily replicated, just because a tune isn't overly complicated doesn't mean its not great. Early Loefah tunes are very basic, lots of atmosphere space, well arranged and a big bassline. All easy to replicate. Kode9s first hyperdub release was just a pulsating bassline and Spaceape reading the lyrics to Princes Sine of The Times.
Agree that tune isn't great and if it was an unknown producer it would be ignored and forgotten about. However I disagree thats the same for his album, maybe I would if the songs were on their own but the album as a whole flows very well despite each track being pretty different.

Yeah i think i mistyped. I don't mean that just because it's not complex doesn't mean it's good, it's just that, for me personally, though Zomby makes catchy stuff and I definately enjoy it, he's not in the same league as so many producers who don't get as much recognition. Though saying that, I'd much prefer that the whole 'How do I make this sound' thread was filled with Zomby tunes than Porter Robinson or any of that shite, lol.

Sure why not. I've heard it played a lot, especially the following weeks when he leaked them a couple of years ago.
Goes great in sets when dropped at the right time, or mixed into/out of the flip too.

I understand what you're saying but I disagree, compared to the countless interviews of such and such 'Bass producer' and they're all so simple and nice and plain, "I just made a tune and then it got picked up".
It's boring and a lot of these people are boring.
Music used to be made by interesting people for non-conventional reasons. Now computer programs and the internet can create demigods out of any bored suburban kid trying to make video game b/s, i.e. Deadmau5.
i partially agree, but the archetypal moody vinyl-only so deep it hurts persona is just as boring.
I like naturally mad characters tho like Wiley, who speaks all of the rapid thoughts that zoom round his head. But Dean Blunt and Inga Copeland are just begging it really, if its tongue in cheek then i don't mind so much and some of its amusing. If they are genuinely serious about some of their claims then its all about try-hard and annoying tho.

the thing is, not everyone is a cookie cutter "i'm just happy to be making tunes, it's all about the fans" type of person. i could imagine if i actually got some minor underground recognition for my music and then got interviewed, best believe it'd all be cryptic inside jokes and wtf's coming from me. there's no rule book on how to interact with the masses. people are unique snowflakes. i mean can you imagine, you're stoned as fuck in your apartment and some twat with a mini recorder comes in and asks you what are your influences and why are you so wierd?... you wouldn't want to fuck with that dude a little bit?

i dunno, it took me a while to get i never saw the zomby hype,
and then it just clicked...you realise those finer details that make
the tunes real. some tunes im like okay mate what are you on
but 99% of the time you feel it, its not stamped out, robotically
produced crap to keep people happy.

This is true, and thats why i dont like reading the same moody marvin type of guys talking about all their deep influences and such like. I dont mind piss taking if it clearly is piss taking, and not some inner deluded belief that they really are some demi-god. Richard David James clearly has interviewers on, and i like that, especially the ones that actually fall for it. But have u ever read a Zomby one? Starts off by claiming he could have been a model, interviewer congratulates him on his cheekbones, then the rest of it is spent sucking up to his overblown ego. At the end of a day, he's just a music producer ffs.
no matter of how many tweets he has of being an asshole, you can tell he does have deep roots in his childhood music, and takes that aspect seriously in his tunes.. I don't think he's a cop-out..
