@Skylerrivera17
Your writing is good dude. My only problem was... Are you intentionally leaving out the sub bass? If not, you need to high-pass filter all of your synths around 130hz, and then take the midi parts to your "bass line" and combine them; put this new combined midi clip on a synth that will play a sine wave that is in the 20-90hz-ish register. That will immediately fill out your sound 100000%

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
The subbass is in there. I have everything else high-passed at around 100-110hz to leave room for it and it's peaking at about -16db. The tune might sound mucky in the low-end but i can't really tell right now because my ears are fatigued haha. i'll have another listen tomorrow and do some revisions. Thanks for the feedback!Mystix wrote:@Skylerrivera17

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
My apologies I definitely hear it present.. I think it is the balance of the upper synths. Some of the voices are over-balancing the bass. I think it's a good track though, I'm just not exactly sure whats up with the bass--I could tell if I saw it on a spectrum analyzer or something. Cheers!

Here's my latest WIP. Got a bit tired by the time i had figured a drop and some drums so this is pretty much just an intro for now.

@1stfiest
THe sound is a bit done already, and you never get the build-up to really climax. Work a bit more on it, and it will be great.
@skylerrivera17
Fuckin sweet aces on the intro! THe drumsamples specially the snare could use some reconsidering tho...
Great drop aswell..
@alpz
Very kode9ish.. just play around some more with reverbs and shit... Mabye some vocal stuff aswell.
So, heres mine..

@1stfiest: holy fuck dude, this is sweet as hell. I mean I was instantly feeling this a lot. I love the fist intro synth and the fact that the second square sounding thing was clashing with the main melody a little just ads to the tension of the drop. I was only disappointed that it's not done. Finish this, it's nice.
@Skylerrivera17: well first I really like the piano, and the melody it plays. I like the way you panned the hats. I feel like they are really driving the song forward. The mix sounds very clean, but for some reason I feel like the over all song is missing something. not sure what though. Good work. How long did this take to make?
@alpz: I love the sub, I don't know if I could tell you much about the mix as I'm suffering ear fatigue right now. At first listen I'd say it's too overpowering but I listened to it a second time and I think that it's works well for the tune in general. I also don't think you need to do a lot more to the song really, it's very cool as is, just a few builds and maybe a lead or something, but I do like the mix in my own personal taste. Again I'm only listening on headphones though.
Well here is my new tune. I'm not sure yet if I'm going to resample the 4 main wobbles and make it a little more bro-stepish or if I will leave it this way and put rap lyrics over it. I mixed it on headphones and am pretty happy with the results. If you have any critiques please let me know, I'm not the best at mixing just yet. Also if you're wondering about the strange title, I always name my songs after the last thing my Fiance says before I hit save

@Alexandercunningham: Beat me by one minute
. I like what you did fx wise to the vocals. I can't give much feedback on the mix other than it's a little to reverb heavy. The melodic work it very tight and well done. Interesting track man.

why you mad tho?

@mromgwtf RUFFFFFFFFFF don't particularly like the bits after :25 tho
@benjoneslikewoah lfo @1:00 is a little loud, levels overall could use some work, like the intro/percussion though
@alexandercunningham that "OH" part before the verse is a little loud, whole soundscape/pad bits are on point tho
i orig made this beat for this dude and he said it wasnt his "style" so i said fuck it, did a remix
only real question is about the levels
(track is in sig)

Was he drinking meths??
Not his style??
You rocked it on that track.
The only thing I'd love is a deep bass cut.
Send me some stems.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
rayman612: like this is straight up sick for an instrumental. the vocals are like really quiet tho like the rapping haha. guess i'd bring that up more in the mix or take it out completely. the beat is so nice tho gj
BenJonesLikeWhoa: hey i think the drums some come out more they kinda seem like theyre in the background while the synths just kinda rage about and overpower them. i feel like with some good mixing and maybe letting the track breathe a little more often it could turn into a pretty nice tear out tune.
Alexandercunningham: this is pretty fuckin cool dude. like i kinda like that there isnt an intro or nothin it just starts all of a sudden. like i really like how all the sounds kinda drown your ears. sorta like a weird chillwave/witchhouse (w/e those fuck genres is called) thing but a little darker and a little more tech like. i dont have moniter speakers, so my only advice would be to check the levels when youre mixing down and make sure nothin is clippin. sounds tight from my end though
my current wip:
main idea is pretty fleshed out just wanting some feedback on some of the sounds, the sample (if it's too gimmicky to use yet another sample before a drop lolol) uh...the levels of everything, etc.
Soundcloud
thanks for the help

Love the vibes! This is just the dub i'm really into. Love the wetness and the rap sample (is it yours?). But it sounds pretty full if you know what I mean?
@BenJonesLikeWhoa
Love the percussion! But the fading of the wobble in the beginning sounds if it could be done better. Maybe delay the last part of the wobble? The bells are really nice and make it sound pretty evil! Almost BSE. I wouldn't make it more brosteppish, love it just the way it is
@rayman612
Sounds really crisp and clean. Love the vocal samples!!! But i thought this was dubstepforum?
Alright so i'm pretty new here. As a member that is, ive been reading a lot of the production bible/page(THANKS FOR THAT). Also here's my WIP:

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Whaddup 'ducers.
@skoomaaa Vocal sample at the beginning is interesting-- perhaps could use a little reverb. I'm not entirely happy with its use as a intro into your song though. But if you're happy with it / it means something to you, then I'd leave it. The drop is great -- I love the subbass. I might back off on the reverb on your snare a little. Realllyyy like the pads that come in at 1:54 and in general, all of the little transitions / glitches you incorporated (esp. at 1:28). Overall, an excellent track in the making. I dig it, man.
@kiene Intro is cool, I wouldn't change much about it -- sweet hat rhythms. I'm personally not a fan of random vocal samples before drops, and I don't think your track in particular necessarily needs it, but like I said about Skoomaa's track, if you like it or it means something to you, then go for it. The drop works really well too, and I really like the variety of sounds you used. Super dark, dungeon-y sound. I think you could bring up the sub a bit more though (at least it sounds like that on my end). The drums at 1:38 is fuckin sweet too. I don't have much else feedback -- I really like it, and I'm excited to see the finished song!
@BenJonesLikeWoah Like others said, work on mixing the drums a bit more. I like the sounds themselves, but they aren't sitting as well as they could in the overall mix. I don't think they need as much reverb. The small little bongo hits or whatever are sweet. I also agree that the drop is a little too loud. Lower the volume of your midrange bass sound a bit. The bells at 2:17 are by far my favorite part. I love the glitching on their tail ends. Super dark sounding. Overall, I think this will be a really sick track once you get the mixdown a little tighter.
Here's my WIP. Kinda took a new direction and worked with a lot of audio cuz I got sick of making midrange bass sounds lol. Hope you guys like it so far:

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@almostskate100 - This is pretty cool, I live the mish-mash of samples, makes for a really glitchy feel, but it's also pretty smooth in how it moves along. The pads in the intro are super nice too. My only complaint is that it doesn't really go anywhere... If I were you I'd either shorten it or change it up a bit near the middle, I think it would work either way.

I enjoyed your tune! the drop was nice, you may need more variety and more interesting drum programming oh yes and maybe a bit more subbass. The melody is nice, but seems to drag on, add slight changes throughout to keep it lively
I like the whole idea/style behind it actually, keep it up homie
1stfiest:
Id say something but your track is no longer available
Alexandercunningham: i personally feel you need work in the mixdown and sound selection/combination. the chords are bland, the lyrics don't seem to entirely fit with the instrumental imo. You may need to consider smoother transitions and cleaner drums. your kick needs more presence, its lacking in lows and highs. I personally do not like the chords and atmosphere, but that is just my opinion bro, do whatever you feel is best for you. I also feel like the drop is quite lackluster and the transitions between breakdown and drop should be emphasized a bit better.
BenJonesLikeWhoa:
I like the hip hop vibe in the intro, your snare may need a bit more clarity, the vibe is decent, I feel there should be more variants and effects, the drop needs more subbass, a heavier regime overall imo, unless you're going for a minimalistic vibe then thats fine my friend, it reminds me of playing the old school dooms for some reason, the atmosphere is nice though, I also enjoyed the eerie keys half way through, it really brought out a fixed emotion behind the song, I also think overall drum elements need to be a little tighter, cleaner and heavier and maybe more fxs, risers, white noise, feedback etc to compliment your beat, it really helps to attain interest in your song with such fx.
mromgwtf:
very nice reese man
rayman612: mmm yes that urban hip hop funk esque, i like this beat, it needs more subbass and maybe a tighter snare, this has mad potential, cant wait to hear the finished track
Electric_Head:
nice mixdown and minimal vibe
I like the deep chords and atmospheric fxs.
kiene:
not really my favorite type of 2step but you do have a nice mixdown, the sound effects and eerie pads really compliment the track, the basses are nice, clean and compact, your kick may need more wieght as well as more subbass. Id love to hear some piano keys being played but in reverse, it would create a unique track
skoomaaa:
interesting intro, the actual musical content doesnt seem to compliment the idea behind it though imo. your snare may need more presence, i feel like its lacking some punch, not a fan of the simple bassliner, maybe variety within your scale and arrangement would really help create more interest. overall a nice start!
almostskate100 :
i enjoyed the late night vibe to it. it definitely has potential, I could see myself driving, toking to this beat late at night, i enjoy your variety in fx and arrangements, it is a very intersting track. I really vibing on it actually, keep it up sir
hey guys! i made a dnb track with vocals/vocal chops, the first drop may drag on for a bit but it REALLY gets interesting half way, which I feel steals the show comparing to the first part of it

Thanks anyway

Regarding your track;
Nice intro, builds well.
The first drop is effective and the melodies work well together.
vocals work well.
2nd drop builds nicely to the actual drop.
All in all it's well produced and pretty nicely mixed.
Almostskate100 - nice pads, good crisp sounding track.
Nice atmospheres.
I'm liking the percussion.
The 2nd section doesn't really develop your idea any further so I have to agree with hudson on that.
Nice track, solid vibe.
Kiene - great sounds
good vibe
well used backing atmosphere
it will be interesting to hear how you develop the tune.
If anyone does want to give me feeckback, you're welcome to review the track in my sig.

@mass-aphekt - So much energy in this track! Has a neat disco feel too. Crazy vocal chops near the end! I got a little overwhelming after a while though, maybe bring the energy down a little more in the breakdown, give the listener a minute or so to breath. Really nice overall though.
