Help with chopping vocals complextro style

Post by mrusername » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:55 am

Hi all,

I understand the theory, and at what points in the bar i'd want to put the vocal etc as I do it fine when i'm using my own vocals.
But just to have a better understanding, when people use samples, what exactly is it you look for in the sample?

What is it that makes for a good vocal chop other than the actual words said? are there certain vocal melodies?
Also, do most people just happen to find vocals that are in the same key as their song, tune them or build the song around the sample?

I know some of this is common sense, its more for me to understand your workflow and what you're listening for when doing this.
Would be great if anyone had links to tutorials etc.

Thanks :W:

If you have a melody down, just get any acapella and start chopping it up.
Get it roughly in the same key but not all of the notes have to be in key.

Then, isolate any notes that aren't in key and pitch them up or down so that they fit.

This works because vocalists don't sing chords, it's only ever one note at a time.

Unless you've got some backing vocalists doing harmonies. ;)

Hope that helps, otherwise just trial and error mate.
