@Electric_head
Seriously lovin the sound choices in the intro man, serious shit! Nice flow in of the rhythm, getting me movin, clever delay on the end of the intro subtle but works well, drums drop still use the rain maker keep keep consistency, wicked shit man, seriously, in other words the intro is amazing.
That sub, could do with being bought up a little, or maybe it's just so low freq wise... WTF that sound design is top notch, the mid rangey stuff. I really like the dark tribal feel, you've captured it amazingly well, top end of the breaks might do with a little panning. Structuring is nice, you've got a nice bit of variation throughout the different sections but it stays very coherent.
Love the switch up @ 2:40 something. very simple use of delay that completely switches up the feel of the track, interesting use of foley incidentals/fx in the panorama. very very good shit man. I like where the voice comes in and sways about the panorama too.
fucking genius @ 5:17 with the tribal chanting, it fits perfectly and OH MY GOD i was about to say, try chopping a bit out and fucking with it with delay and low and behold that's what happens right as I'm thinking it. I don't like the last section so much, it contrasts the rest of the tune too much, although it does have a nice melodic feel to it the distortion is to contrasted as the rest of the tune is very tight and 'clean' sounding, with all the washyness and distortion in the last section, it feels a bit off.
Overall jeesus man, you know your shit.

@MassAphekt
nice intro, traditional liquid DnB vibe goin on here, touch of melody nice rolling on the breaks, ok fake drop, nice touch i like the vocals and the lead, nice programming on the build up with the drum switchups and nice drop. though here, mixdown man, lows are to quiet and the lead is to loud compared to the rest of the mix, bring the lead down and the kick/snare could do with a little compression to give them more punch, they're fairly high in their pitch registers, structuring is nice, very standard, shit happens when you expect, except that fake drop before lol. at the breakdown, really nice switch up of the vocals, very IDM styled chops, complicated vocal programming must have taken you a while. Second buildup follows the last, fake drop style so that's sound, when it does drop though, wow man! fucking WORKS! those vocals roll with the break so well! I will mention mixdown again though, the vocals feel like they need to be much more up front and the lead is still too loud with the lows too low. Swap the positioning of those two elements, vocals up front, lead sat where the vocals are right now. Outro is very clean too.
Overall a well put together track, very cool musical ideas with an amazing use of complicated vocal programming that's been creatively applied to the syncopation of the break, structuring is sound with the fairly surprising fake drop used in both sections. If anything the mix down needs looking at.

@Almostskate100
I'm really liking the sombre minimal reflective vibe of the intro, really my kind of sound! nice foley use and the chords fit very cleanly with the vibe. very very nice drop, the break elements are very defined with nice use of pitch registry, everything has it's place. Nice use of chords to keep the rhythm going. I'm not too much of a fan of deep south kicks but it works well for the tune. I like the incidental bass patches that show their faces every now and again. The tune has a very minimal feel which leaves it's self room to really define it's groove. The breakdown could do with a few more elements, but then again maybe not, the track has a minimal vibe i suppose. The switchup to a new sound palette for the second section was a nice touch. It's an interesting tune, sort of a showcase of creative use of foley incidentals. The biggest thing that comes to mind is that the track seems very melodically starved. You introduce melody very soon and prominently in the track and have a chords carry the tune forward as a strong element, but nothing happens melodically throughout the tune which makes it begin to feel rather monotonous towards the end, starting in the middle where the second section has no majour changes from the first bar a variation in how you're combining the foley sounds rhythmically. It feels slightly confused where to me melody is introduced and then incidental intricacy spends the rest of the song trying to fight the chordal presence for center stage for the rest of the tune. I would advise playing with a very subtle chordal progression just to give it that much more movement. Overall though, a very clean track with some great ideas, if anything a little confused about what it wans to be.

Ok, time for me. Something I've been working on for a while. The progression is half finished so it's only half a track. I need some ideas about the low end, it's completely missing subby a bass line which is what I'm having trouble with coming up with ideas for, i would also like general ideas on any other element of the tune that comes to mind that you feel needs looking at, I've become very close to the track and can't really hear it objectively any more, so fresh ears are a must. Don't hold back, be honest and forward about constructive critisisms, i want this one to turn out lovely. Cheers.

@turnipish_thoughts - This is pretty cool, it like the atmosphere and the drums are nice and light... super floaty, dreamy feels. If you need a bassline, why not try just writing one that plays the roots notes of those swelling pads or the little arpeggio lead? That's what I would do. Aside from that, some vocals would be really nice, a few layers and different ooos and aaaaas would really take the song to another level imo

@hudson Love the subtle noise throughout the song...adds a lot of texture and quality to the piece. It fades out at like 1:13 though, which I wouldn't necessarily have done. Its a small criticism, but I feel like that little dip in the overall texture of the piece took me out of the zone, if you know what I mean. I'd just carry the noise throughout the whole song. Love the quiet vocals during the breakdown. I think the vocals come in a little heavy at the second 'drop.' Maybe add a bit more reverb? The delay on the vocals is beautiful...nice touch. Overall, it's a beautiful, quiet, introspective piece. I really like it. My one major suggestion would be to either introduce some more subtle variations in the melody, or add a few very quiet 'ghost' kicks in a few spots, just to break the 4-on-the-floor rhythm, if only momentarily. Just because those two aspects of your piece pretty much remain constant throughout the whole song. The ending is perfect. Thanks for your feedback on my track, btw.

@Turnpish Thoughts Thank you for your detailed feedback on my track. I'll definitely be taking your thoughts into consideration. Love the intro, esp the little 'glitch' at 0:52. It really helped introduce the next section. This track is seriously beautiful dude....like, it brought on so many thoughts and feelings. This is the kind of music that I wish I had enough talent to make...as such, I don't have too much feedback for you. I agree with Hudson about the bassline -- I'd just copy the MIDI from the pad or arpeggiated lead, whichever you like best. You do an awesome job at using the whole stereo field to create that sort of swelling feeling. Amazing man, keep it up.

@MassAphekt A really fun, exciting track. I'm really impressed by what you did with the vocals, esp in the 2nd half. Really interesting and intricate. Love the little synth drop at 1:58. I agree with Turnpish about the relative levels of the vocals and the lead. The fake drop at 2:42 is really sick too. Overall, I really like it -- I'm not the biggest DNB fan in general, so I actually am having trouble coming up with any criticisms for you. I think it flows together really well, and there's a perfect balance of hesitation and raw energy, if that makes sense. Your transitions are basically spot on, and the 2nd drop is even higher in energy than the 1st (as it should be). Nice work man...keep it up. Thanks for your comments on my track too, btw.

Here's another one. For you guys more into the deeper kinda stuff (which it seems like a lot of recent posters are), this probably isn't your favorite style haha. But it's something I'm drawn to recently for some reason. Still a WIP, but let me know what you think. Feedback on "Kaleidoscope" (sig) is still welcome too.

@Turnipish Thoughts

I think you can EASILY add a Nice Subbass in it, just have it go along with your melody you got and have it going in a out alittle. You got this shit bro, I only hope to make melodies like you.

@hudson

I could definately make love to this. I like it :D, I cant give technical critique though :/.

@almostskate100

I like your style, shit is gangster, I don't see much wrong with it. Eh, im a newb though so haha, probably can't.

Good advice and criticism is welcomed. I know some of it looks like I threw it in there like nothing but I was getting exhausted after a while. Made it all within 3 hours.

Electric Head: Lol I thought so, I just felt like giving a short positive one for it anyways, I sincerely enjoy the track, its unique and somewhat glitchy which I love, and especially that synth at 1:09 that reese type growl

Hudson: thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it! yeah I thought that it may need a bit more cooling down at some points
As for your tune, it's very interesting, it has a nice calming vibe that I find myself enjoying lately, sort of lounge, chill type. I like your little sinewave kick it adds character to your tune imo, i know many may think whats so great about it but it really adds a smooth touch, the vocals are nice, sort of eerie but mostly endearing. keep it up brotha.

Turnipish Thoughts: thank you for the awesome feedback, very objective and I did those specific tweaks and my mix sounds more fuller and clearer :) thanks for the tip!

very stellar track my friend, seriously, this is a song to pass time with in solitude or toking with your girl you know? haha, I enjoyed the pianos and atmosphereic effects, such an affective too as well, I appreciate the passion and imagination put into it. honestly, just play your root note of the pads, with so much amazing elements already put into it Im honestly wondering how you cannot come up with a subline for it lol, no offense or anything, but yeah man, please finish it asap, its a serious tune..ima follow you!

almostskate100: nice intro, very futuristic and techy, I like the little synth/arp you have going on, the bass and glitch effects are nice, the rising synth is nice, once everything slows down to the 1st drop is a sick touch, the drop it self is decent imo, could use more presence and grittier textures, it reminds me of playing a dark dungeoun or something, i like the arp and snare work after the first drop, that weird gutagagaugkguagakg is nice at 2 min lol
overall has potential just needs a bit more energy to really make her bang, overall a very nice foot step ahead.

SupaRaiden64: the synth reminds me of majoras mask for nintendo 64, the eerie bell organs are a decent touch, i feel the song lacks in musical creativity imo but can be worked on with potential, i am personally not a fan of the robot vocals, the build up is okay , the drop disappoints, your midrange bass needs more subbass, and maybe change up your synths and melody to create more interest. your bass sounds too thin or stretched out in the stereo field, the midrange sounds like its lacking high frequencies. I am personally not a fan of this song, but practice makes perfect, please don't be discouraged by any negative feedback! tackle the next one :)

SupaRaiden64: good! When I hear your drums, I think that I have pillow on my ears.

@TurnipishThoughts
the intro is a surreal mind warp, the mechanical type clanging sounds mixed with mellow pads gives a superb hydroelectro feel.. its fresh, the tune is airy, but not in a bad way, it gives space so the sounds can breath .. It can feel a bit repetitive at some points but its a smooth track.. all its missing is that bass and it will be a banger of a tune.. best wishes,.. thoughts on bass could just be two simple sines, with a little bit of distortion not much, to give an edgy feel like you had with the intro mate !>> :)

@MassAphekt
your track makes me feel like im on an acid trip for kirby's air ride hahaha.. its up beat and fast paced.. has a cool mellow mixdown after the rush of glory sounds, the mixing and mastering is just perfect.. all I could personally ask for is more bass !!! but thats just my opinion.. other than that, everything is clear and travel to the ears fluidly for a good hear.. all in all its not my type of music but with tracks like that I can dig.. Im just more of meditate on bass weight when It comes to dnb jungle.. ever heard of J Majik ? he's a killer jungle artist from late 90's early 00's .. check him out sometime. :h:

@Electric_Head
tbh.. I was expecting more after the beautiful and luscious sample of tribal chants and drums.. the mid range synths you used gives a chill down my back .. :4: but the bass feels like it overpowers to much and lacks and sense of place of position , the arrangement of the entire is great, I can feel where things are coming and what will occur but it still explodes my mind of thought when it does take place.. only much I can say , is to master the percussion and little so its tighter and collate and contrast with the midrange synth you using too sweep back and forth through the track.. compress and sidechain the kick and bass.. change up the perc every now and then because it gets really repetitive . but other than that swell track and nice samples !.. where you get them btw ? your own recording or a certain website ??

my track.. naughty grimey is what I went for.. inspirations from the kings of steppers dub.. Jakes.. The Aliens.. Coki.. and a coup of influence from the Don kromestar.. Im trying to experiment more with stepper because I have insane amount of sound design patches I made and trying to find the right style to use them with ..

tell me what you think !(:

@klesher: mate that's a wicked tune, i actually really love it. mabye just vary up the intro a little more and add a little reverse sweep delayed that filters up or something into the drop. and bring the kick to the front of the mix a tad more. otherwise, groove sounds naaaasty, can hear that coki/kromerstar influence for sure, but still got a nice edge...would be great to see the rhythm of the mids get developed as the tune progresses, but i guess i'll to wait and see what happens with it!

@turnipsh: as everyone's already said, beautiful tracks. i think if you bring the drums all to the front of the mix you might be able to hear a possible bassline in your head a bit better...but that might make the track sounds too dancefloor-y (not sure if you want to keep the drum groove as an atmospheric thing rather than a driving pulse). but you a fucking excellent understanding of melody/harmony and structure imo...nice work mate, keep it up

@almostskate100: really nice sounding track man, mixdown sounds crisp as...everything sounds so clear in the mix, so jealous of that skillful talent...not too much to suggest, other than a change up of the drum rhythms will do wonders to keep the track flowing and keep interest, just every now and then (starts/end of phrases or 4-16 bar cycles)

@MassAphekt: mate those vocal chops are mental lol. so good! i've been up all night and that got me noddin my head and grooving again! drums sound a bit dry to me, but i think that kinda goes with that style of dnb...mabye add a bit of distortion/saturation to all the layers? hats sounds great as is actually, so mabye no need to add distortion to the whole bus send (if thats how you work). serious kinda party, uplifting vibes on this one, nice work mate. the occasional ride cymbal would probably be a treat to help that happy sounding top end moving along nicely and help vary the drums up every now and then too. nice work man!!

so here's two tunes i've been working on...got both of them up to this point (both are about 5-6 minutes long as of now) in under a day each, and it's a heck of a lot better than anything else i've produced so far...i always get excited when i make a new tune and want to just post it on soundcloud and not quite finish the tune as well as i should, so any advice on where to go from here would be seriously appreciated.
there hasn't been a lot of attention paid to the mixdown yet, and that's really where my faults lie anyway...so any feedback is appreciated!
ez :)

@hansvictoriayeeros
mad fire tune for the first track, Im finding myself break my neck to this head nodder haha.. Im loving the kickback style.. reminds me of vivek with the swing type bass.. the percussion is right on hit !(: I simply love it, all it really needs is a mastering for the mixdown, as you said early how you didn't pay much.. compression on the kick and bass the sound clearer cleaner and fuller, and tighten the percussion really well with lots of reverb on different snares to give it that airy feel ! something along the lines of vivek - asteriods is what I pick up off your track its really good mate ! can't wait to hear the finished product.. and thanks for the tips you gave me(:

if you haven't heard this track before you will be amazed by similarities ! >> vivek - asteriods http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuANhbw46XE

@Turnipish Thoughts: Dude that is beautiful. I love the weird percussion noises. I really cant think of a bass line you can put in there. I agree with the sines with maybe a little distortion. Just a slow driving line. You are amazingly skilled man.

@akmostskate100: Right as that dropped a huge smile came to my face. So sick. I like the vocals they add a really interesting aspect. Really one of the weirdest songs I have heard in a good way.

@GuitarJon: I used to be a huge metal head so its cool hearing some metal influences. I like the combination of the two slipknot songs. You have good sounds. I like the chopped vocals. Maybe extend the verse's instead of only having them be so short. I like it though.

So I have been working on this off and on for a week or so. I am really getting the hang of FM8 now. Let me know what changes can be made.

@ GuitarJon: beautiful lyrics, and great production too!
@MassAphekt: so much energy! I love it! maybe insert some really heavy modulated bassline and some sick switchups, but i dunno if that's what you're going for at all.

@Gaol: If you are former fan of metal, i suppose you liked stuff with heavy grooves too? the groove metal sort of stuff? Meshuggah, periphery, animals as leaders? If so, you might like the second drop of this tune i made: http://soundcloud.com/reverse23/exploring-dark-matter-1 !

RIDICAL: Thanks for the feedback! You have a nice start to a hip hop esque tune! Your kick has the body it needs, the high end could maybe use some compression and a tad saturation, or perhaps a secondary kick with a snappy transient with a high on top, it sounds somewhat lo-fi imo, but from personal taste I like snappy kicks, so please take my kick advice with a grain of salt lol. Your snare is decent; for an intro though. At the drop you should maybe have a brighter heavier snare, I personally am not feeling the snare it sounds awkward imo, the subbass and how it transposes from key to key needs a bit of work, it doesn't entirely groove yet but its a good start in key :) also youll need moar melodies and fx in this day and age to attract more listeners imo, don't be afraid to be creative with your favorite synthesizer to make weird fxs and transitions/risers/whitenoises etc. A nice open hat or ride to create the illusion that the track is a bit faster than it is would help as well. overall a nice start to a 2step track, it sounds like it has the potential for a hip hop or underground dub track!

GuitarJon: nice midrange growl type reese, the vocals are a bit weird at the start but thats okay cause I hear the drop and vocals, completely impressed with this drop, very clean mix down, amazing stereo field work, the vocals work very nicely with the tune, the melody chords are very nice touch, it has that diminishing return effect I like in this style of dubstep, the second drop is bananas. this totally inspired me to get back into synthesis for gritty sounds. I am also gonna follow you. Great work on the tune for real, maybe some feedback fx or interesting glitchy fx ocassionally in the drop would take it to another level, amazing work. keep at it.

Klesherdubs: lmao thanks :) It definitely has that video game vibe to it haha, and sweet homie thanks! I'll check out majik momentarily.
As for your track, very eerie vibe you have here, its interesting. reminds me playing in a dark dungeon lol, it needs work imo. The kick could be a tad louder and maybe compressed together with all the other drum elements, a punch snare would be appreciated, maybe more variation in your melodies to create more interesting for listeners. The way you transpose your eerie voice-like melody gets a tad annoying imo but you have a chance to make it better homie. Keep it up and let more loose on the next :D

hansvictoriayeeros: Sweet tip mang, I definitely applied everything you suggested this morning and rerendered, it sounds more punchy, heavier and also clearer :) thanks for the awesome feedback and tip bro

cool kick work in correlation with the saw sub you have in the background, the vocals work nicely together, your drop is so cool, I love every element of it, it has a very violent vibe to it. please finish this asap, I don't find anything wrong with it except for moar subbass! that werraaaaaeeehhhuhhhh melody is sick too hahaha , your percussions compliment everything so well too... the end part sounds nice, it should be elaborated on to create a new drop :)

Gaol: amazing color in your melodies, so interesting, the melody at the top is nice, it compliments the vibe so well. I can imagine myself playing this somewhere beautiful while smoking a fat bowl with my loved ones haha, definitely a cool tune. please finish asap!the drop mad need more bang in the bass and drum elements to distinguish the drop and break down better. A very nice start to the drop though. that intro killed me imo haha the way the melody transposes on the second build up made need more work, it simply didnt flow too well imo but everything is so nice, Ima follow you, Im sure you have more interesting tunes!

Reversed:Thanks for the kind words :) I love how everyone mentions how energetic it is, that's the whole goal behind every track :) and I may be remixing it into a total gritfest later in the summer anyways, as well as allowing others to remix it at anytime :corndance:
and holy shit on the your reese koan style sounds. so damn groovy, the groove of your drums and subbass is so sick!! i love this tune already, as you already said it needs moar melodies and shit but Im sure youre working on that! great synthesis man, it inspired me to work on my growl and reese synthesis!

haha i bet! Some friends of mine went the whole way from germany to the netherlands to see them live ;D ( i couldnt go because i had to study for a test :( )
Well the second drop is 7/4 (like spasm :P) and has some triplet groove and triplet breaks, etc. Probably going to try advance that idea of offtime in dubstep-ish stuff further, imo it leads to some interesting stuff groovewise :) (it might even help for advancing atmosphere by use of the feeling of different time signature, but only tool and genius bands like them can do that :P)
