Well the second drop is 7/4 (like spasm) and has some triplet groove and triplet breaks, etc. Probably going to try advance that idea of offtime in dubstep-ish stuff further, imo it leads to some interesting stuff groovewise
(it might even help for advancing atmosphere by use of the feeling of different time signature, but only tool and genius bands like them can do that
)
Haha dude that is so sick. Its definitely new. You should definitely progress this as much as possible. It has the off beatness but it is still cool to nod too. That's the hard thing to do.

@gaol "powerchords"
i like the hi hat work nice and crisp but the main wobble is a bit to simple hm i could see this work more as a chiptune like lots of 8 bit sounds not necessarily only chiptune sounds but they could work but i really dont feel the bass
@hansvictoriayeeros
really good drumwork sounds get a bit lost at some places but you got your structure down no its just mixing search for those overpowering spots in the bass like 200 300 500, try to sidechain your sub to your kick or get a nice 100 hertz bassdrum really feel the groove etc just take your time in the mixing stage
second tune pretty much the same really nice drums sample is really nice too in this one
@klesherdub
like the groove haha mix is good maybe some more sub power hm maybe bring everything up a bit not much maybe compress some sounds more could see a wet wobble passage happining with the same wobble less drums and just wob www wob haha could really work and maybe bring this really long tail snare clap in at some points like ts ts ts tschhhhhhhhh
my two wips atm both use the same voice effect but really different styles

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@massaphekt thanks heaps mate! appreciate the kind words! yeah definately gotta beef up that sub, probably gets lost a bit too with the kick and other bass sounds...and i'm already onto the second drop man, don't worry haha
glad to hear you got somewhere with your tune too man, good shit!
@klesherdubs heheh yeah man bit of a violent headnodder listening back to it, thanks for your feedback mate!!! definately gotta get moving on the mixdown, will probably strip the tune right back and cut a few holes for everything to sit comfortably...bruv v.i.v.e.k. is the man, always loose my mind to out of reach...asteroids is mental too, thanks for the tip! i love how it just kinda floats along but smacks you hard with the sub...
@budpsencertron sweeeet thanks for the specific advice man, much appreciated! as i said, gotta get the mix sorted...i always get scared about sidechaining, like it's just gonna sound like a 'whoosh' every time the sub lines up with the kick, i don't want to make no electro house tune lol...nah but is it something worth looking in to? (i know there are whole threads dedicated to this, but you know, personal opinion is always good). i've actually totally redone the second wip, i'll post it below...thanks again man
the vocals in that first tune of yours are fucking awesome, really nice effect with the octave drops. i don't personally like the little slides as it changes, but i guess without them it would be a bit jarring to suddenly jump that far in the register...mabye just make them slightly quicker? i dunno, not much wrong with the tune at all lol...sounds so crisp and clean, really nice work man. and the first tune in your sig? mate that's a ripper, groovy as hell, got lots of weight under it too, jeez. i might send ya a pm about that one, would love to play it out...
i think you know what you're doing mate haha, everything you got posted is sounding fucking awesome, big up.
alright...so that second wip i had up before...all gone my friends! wasn't really feeling it, so i just took most of the elements and rejigged the feel of it a bit...
tried really hard to get this sounding clean...i'm sure there's more i can do in the mixdown process but this is once again the best thing i've ever done (listen to stuff in my sig and you'll see what i mean lol)
all feedback appreciated!

your new wip sounds good so far lots bass weight try to bring the snare a bit more up hm i could really see this working with out the midrange bass just the sub pushing and the groove on top plus the nice oriental sample is enough for my taste

@hansvictoriayeeros This is deep man -- really clean mixing. Love the intro and all of the little incidental hits. I actually think the midrange sounds are sick. I'd leave them in, but it's up to you i guess. That asian sample or whatever is fucking awesome. Fits beautifully in your song. I think you could bring the snare out a bit more. Other than that, I don't have too much else to say, other than I'm excited to see where this goes. Cool style man
@BudSpencerTron Vocal effect is sweet. Love the switching between octaves. You did a good job of switching up the vocal effect too; like right when it was about to get boring, you switched it up. Nice. The transition at 1:10 could use a bit of a touch up. I think the vocals are a bit out of time, so it sounds a little off. Maybe theyre a little too early? I don't know what it is. I think you can bring your main clap up a bit too (not the quiet, panning ones) and maybe pan it more towards the center. Overall though, this is a really cool vibe. Never really heard anything like it, so props to you. Makes me really calm and relaxed. I'm not going to review it as much in depth, but your other song "Katy Goes to Bollywood" is so fucking crazy haha, I LOVE it.

Reversed Weird ass time signature -- you did a really good job of keeping it flowing. The bass sound is so sickkkk. I don't really like the little "bop!" glitch or whatever that is... might be some type of snare. It works with the song, but I think just dont use it as frequently. Otherwise, the mixdown seems really good so far. Excited to see where this goes with some layered synths on top. Really unique, groovy vibe man. I've tried messing with odd time signatures countless times and never got anything this cool haha, so good work!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
BudSpencertron I really like the first WIP. Very deep I love what you've done with the vocals. The percussions are really crisp but I would like the 3rd beat snare to stand out more compared to the other clap things. The second WIP is even cooler actually! Very unique style and I love what you've done with the vocals here as well. I think you've got something big going on with both these actually!
hansvictoriayeeros: Cool and atmospheric intro with a lot of details. I like it. Big drop with really heavy wobbles! Production is very good and all the small things fit together nicely. I love the oriental/arabic sounds and I think you could extend that theme even more.
almostskate100: The intro is really sick but I was expecting a more distinct drop at 0:57. It gets better at the second drop but I would still like it bigger. The effects, percussions and harmonies are really good though and the production is tight so keep it up! Nice outro as well.

I know this tune is a little cliché, but I just threw it together this afternoon.
Almost all of the one shots were recorded from the sounds my desk makes.
I just started making dubstep this year, so advice is welcome.

@Grok I agree that I dont know what to call this. Its sick though. The snare is lost a little bit. I like that main driving sound a lot. It keeps the tune moving so good. Your progressive sounds at the beginning are cool. They dont set the mood for that drop though. It just seems like they are there and then the song changes. Keep this song going till finish.
@Klesherdubs haha dude that is sick. The intro and drop work really good together. I can never get intros and drops to fit. Its super grimy. That main noise is superb. And the change up when the song ends is so sick.
@SupaRaiden The song has potential. The main wobble is way too loud. Turn that down and that track would already be a lot better. You need to mix your volumes. Your sounds are cool but everything is different volumes. Some way too loud and some really quiet. Get those levels right and the song would be sick.
So I have been working on this baby for a couple of days now. Im getting to the point where im pretty happy with where its at. I have some more mixing to do. Let me know what you think.

Yo - Yo - Yo. Here's a bunch of feedback from the past couple-o-pages.
BudSpencertron
- Nine WIP - Really liking the feel to this one. There's an arp that pops in later on that needs a little more clarity, possibly just taking out some of the lows slightly but its coming on nicely.
almostskate100
Intro made me think of circus records. Liked the kick - nice bit of weight to it. The drop needs to be fuller - maybe even some simple 'swoosh' type things but its all got a Rusko-meets-circus feel which I quite like. Mix is sounding good.
Grok
This is good man! You've managed to get a metallicy bassline but kept a lot of the weight in the bottom end. What kind of layering have you done here?
Gaol
The instrumentation is good but there needs to be more emphasis on the drop. Cut out some of the freqs before it and some kind of increase in volume will help.
MassAphekt
Was really digging this but when it finally kicks off theres no bass! Turn that shit up son and get that kick smashing through.
Reversed
I think you said it yourself - Its just missing all the other melodies / pads etc. Bass sounds sweet tho - what kind of filtering you doing? Also - I 'm not a huge fan of the snare - get something bigger in there.
Right - now here's mine. Struggling with this mixdown big time so could use some help. I always seem to struggle with the bass - especially when it comes the more growly kind of sounds so I really want to add more weight across the board to this tune when it drops (probably 100 - 700ish hz). Would you guys advocate just layers a more standard bass sound that hits around here?
Right - here's the tune:
Soundcloud
Here's the reference tunes I've kinda been working to. Its got a nice beefy low end but nice definition and lots going on above it.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Bud - 1st: Love the claps in the first one, the vocals are really well done too. I would add a pad in there somewhere, way in the back though. It just needs some chords I think. Other than that I really like it, you could probably just finish it in an hour or two imo.
2nd: This one is cool too, not sure how much I dig the Katy Perry sample
You definitely used it well though. Amazing percussion again, that main synth lead is great too, really fun. Once again, I think it needs some chords/a pad, but that's just my preference.
@burgeamon - Right off the bat, the drums could hit a little louder. Maybe try parallel compressing them or just turning them up a little. It might also be a space issue, get in there with some surgical EQing to make sure nothing's clashing. I agree that the mid-bass needs to be a little thicker, layering/freuency splitting/distorting might help, but I don't have much experience with that. The vocal sample gets a tab annoying around 2:55, so maybe find a different one to put in at that part. I'd also suggest adding some shakers/more percussive elements in general. Neat track though, lots of energy, got a good warehouse vibe mixed in with a more modern EDM sound.
@Gaol - Cool ambient vibe, I like the spaciness. The intro is a little boring though, maybe cut it in half or work on some little change ups and stuff. That main synth sound a little too loud after the drop, but I like how it interacts with the wobbles. It sounds a little empty around the break, so maybe add some background noises or a pad or something to fill it out and keep it moving. Also the wobble sounds a little too wet for the track, it doesn't fit in that well. I guess you could fix that by turning the res down a little or something. Nice vibes though.
Here's something I started yesterday, I haven't really given it much of a mixdown yet, but I don't have anymore time to work on it today so I figured I might s well post it.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Burgeamon - Overall sounding pretty solid, as you stated before the bass could use a little more oomph. Try adding some resonation to it or add another layer like you suggested.
Gaol - Make the wobble a little more modulated and dirty sounding, as it stands currently it's a little bit generic and repetitive. Try mixing up the notes, perhaps every other wob could have the end a lower pitch.
hansvictoriayeeros - Sounds good but the mix is really quiet, toss on a limiter or something so everyone listening doesn't have to mess with the volume (soundcloud volume slider = one buggy POS)
track i'm working on is in my signature, c&c appreciated! kind of done with this track, each time i sit down to add something i end up thinking "nah it's fine as is.." suggestions on what to add would be sweet. i want to add a vocal sample but i have no idea what to use :/

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@difference - Very different. I like it alot. The subbass sounds a bit mushy and undefined, though. That's the only thing I can criticize, really.
@hudson - Huge tune. Kick needs some more higher harmonics, but keep it soft...it's great when its soft like that.
@burgeamon - Cool concept. While it's not the typical style I would listen to, the sounds are awesome and the tune is great. Higher freq's sound a bit messy at certain parts.
These are just random drums. I had no aim in making them and probably won't do anything with them...let me know what you think and, if anybody wants to use them, that's fine by me.

EDIT:
I'll just throw this one in here as well.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Hey folks, I didn't see the first post saying to give other people feedback first. I suppose that should be common sense, my bad.
Again, I'm really new to dubstep production, so my feedback might not carry a lot of weight, but I have a pretty good ear, so take what you can from my words.
jrisreal, that drum loop is has a killer vibe, but the kick is a bit overpowering and a little too poppy. It's probably just a mixdown thing, but I'd maybe layer a higher kick over it or adjust the EQ.
hudson, if it were my tune, I'd mess around with the rhythm of the drums a bit and speed it up by 3 or 4 bpm, but that's probably just my personal taste speaking. Keep doing your thing.
grok, I think the synths in the intro are a little dissonant, you might want to lay out a more refined chord progression. I'm really feeling your tune though; the drums are unreal!
And here's mine again:

@magu: Haha, I loved that tune man!!! too sick
Melodies were amazing and the bass shook me, the kick could use a lil eq I think but still great!
@BudSpencertron: Katy goes to Bollywood is just too sick man! The sub is perfect, and all the percs fit in really nicely !
Can
t wait to hear it finished!
@Hudson: sick tune man, rhythms and melodies are deep and profound. Only thing is I feel the drums are missing something from the kick to the snare. every two bars it sound like theres an open hat there, and thats perfect, but it needs something for the other bar i think, like some kind or random percussion. clap/ snare is really nicely layered man!
My wip, messed around with some sample I had, going for a deep tune. Any ideas/thought about how I could make it heavier and deeper? Thanks! (arrangement is still rough atm)

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Dj Cappa Idk how I feel about the vocal sample...I mean, it's an awesome sample. But I'm not sure how well it works with your tune / if it's in the same key. But if you like it, keep it in there I suppose. Could use some more reverb either way I think. Your hats / crashes / snare sound good, but I think you're losing your kick in the mix a bit. Maybe it just needs to be a bit louder. I think if you added some white noise sweeps in between phrases, it would help create some more movement and flow in your track. I really like the little glitches before the drop (like 16 seconds-ish). Also, another thought -- you should try increases the spread of your midrange bass at certain points. You have some delays going on at a couple spots which is nice, but maybe try messing around with the actual stereo size of your midrange growl if that makes sense. Pretty good start though man!
CrunkNugget Love the intro and the little 'coffee slurping' sample right before the drop haha. I chug coffee during my producing seshes, so I liked the concept of this track a lot haha. Lots of cool incidental samples and hits. I like the drum kit you're using. I think you need some more sub. You got the midrange bass sounds going on, but you could give them a ton more weight if you layer a nice thick sine wave underneath. The breakdown at 1:05 is nice, and I like how the drums come back in with that little fill. I find the bass sound that comes in at 0:46 to be a little too harsh / screechy. It might just be a little too loud. Or actually just really screechy. Lol. My favorite part about the track right now is the pads / drums and the breakdown. I might work on the midrange synths a bit.
Jrisreal Those drums sound super nice man. Really clean. I like the changes in the kick drum sample. Don't really have much else to say about that WIP haha. I wish I could make drum loops like that! Your second WIP: beautifulllll pads and atmosphere man. Also, nobody really ever comments on stuff like this, but I love the title to the track too. I think the piano could use a little more reverb / slower decay time. Especially at like 1:10, I wish the notes would just kinda linger for a while, but they seem to fade away a little too quickly. Also, you have a sort of buzzy synth thing that comes in at 1:25 -- I would make that hit and then start decrescendo'ing right away, just cuz it fades out kinda abruptly at 1:40 and throws off the vibe a little (just my opinion). That bass is super deep...I love it. Same thing I said prior about the piano applies to the end too -- I think the piano should linger just as long as the fading bass sound. Overall, a beautiful track -- have to get picky with my feedback for awesome tracks like this

Like the sound of this one overall. I think the shakers are a little too bright and stick out a bit too far and there's a degree of muddyness in the low end but just needs a little EQ.
jrisreal
I like the drums. They have a lo-fi type vinyl quality to them but are still lovely and punchy!
CrunkNugget
This is very different. I feel if you're going to down play the midrange then you need some kind of HUGEEE sub underneath for max vibes!
Dj Cappa
Not totally sold on the vocal - LOVE LOVE LOVE the little arp you have in there. The midrange needs some more of the lower end as its a little toooo crispy - but only a touch.
alpz
you sig tune is sick man - been really feeling those deep vibes. Nice balance and mix too.

Glitchhhyyyyy... loads going on here. My personal taste would be to establish a BIG kick / snare pattern with all the other shit going on around it. There's lots of interesting stuff there that could fit between the beats.
Right - I've had a play and a rejig with my tune to get some more bass into it. The sub in this version is probably a little conservative but I've tried to balance the other sounds above it so that it hits harder than it did. I've only worked on the first 8 bars after the drop so I've not posted the whole track. The build up needs more work as well to build into the pace better.
