going 'mainstream' with dubstep is a ridiculous idea - for a scene built around the ethos of physical bass, how are you supposed to get that idea across via tinny little speakers in TVs, radios and mobile phones? Joe Public doesn't go to places where there are fuck-off big speakers, so will never really 'understand' the music unless producers change their sound to allow for this fact.

adapting to such limitations is one of the reasons the 'mainstream' DnB scene is in such a mess nowadays.

No doubt it will happen in some way, shape or form in the near future, but it won't bear much relation to what we think of as 'dubstep' nowadays.

Rossi B and Luca did a grime type remix, on the back of Music Money, nice track aswell but not really what i'd call Dubstep.

As for dubstep which might be popular to a wider audience, Box of Dub, pretty much every track on there, Skream's album, Kode9 and Burial. But then it still depends on peoples taste, there are no deffinate bangers.

Now why would anyone want dubstep to be mainstream? There is already loads and loads and loads of commercial music out there - so why fuck up dubstep? If you want money you can work in the stock exchange - if you want girls have a shower, get a haircut, buy some smart togs and pay attention to them.

Now get away with you and your daft suggestions

I think good music should stand up on any system. Burial's stuff works fine without rattling the foundations and there are plenty of others. A lot of people have home cinema now, which does mean that they're more likely to have it running into a decent hi-fi.

People should remember that bass is not the be-all and end-all, and that tunes that are just that and a big snare can be fucking tedious (and often is). I think this whole "keep it underground" shit is just reactionary dribblings - if a commercial tune came out, I get the feeling a lot of people would hate it regardless of whether it was good or not (I seem to remember the haters starting on the Justin Timberlake remix).

I think there's a lot of reasons why drum and bass is on the wane, but I don't think commerciality is the main reason. Over-emphasis on production, loss of soul and the unwillingness of many dj's, producers and fans to try new sounds seems to have far more impact (please note that I said many not all before that tired argument comes up again). I heard "Shake your Body" the other day and thought that it was well put together, catchy, and worked well as both a dance and a pop tune, which is more than I could say for a lot of the more "artistic" end.
Hmm....

Any thing as long as it's not half step bass fetishism.

A lot of dubstep has always had a strong pop sensibilty. Ie catchy. Wether people will admit to that is a different matter.

whats the big deal about mainstream music any ways?

if dubstep became mainstream in a blink of an eye.most of you would jump off winging like a child, saying you dont like it any more. not liking a tune cus everyone else likes it is being a tit in my eyes! a great tune is still a great tune no matter who likes it!

but a lot of mainstream music is shit music marketed so much that ya average joe thinks it great.

thats the main problem to mainstream music methinks.

but can you denie that there is tunes in the charts that you do like?
