--THIS MEANS WAAAAAR-- just kidding.Im intrested in your opinions on the future, all electronic priducers are saying that we are running out of ideas for the songs, and they say that it all sounds the same and it just gets more noisyer,so are we? i think it will end up like drum n bass ,the reason i posted this here is i wanna know what people that acctually made this genre and are making it not think.Does it have an end,or is it just gonna get more commercialized,i dont reeally have a problem with justin bieber or anyone else trying to do this ,but we all saw the proggress from examp."midnight request line" and "skrillex - equinox" ,,,SO WHAT IS NEXT????

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
People are and will still be making cool new tunes that are not "noisier". Some of my favourite tunes are still to be released this year by people on this forum and are on a similar tip to alicia by mala for example (guess what im talking about get a prize, im not dick riding i promise
). Ther is no be all and end all. I hope...

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
Dubstep as was originally known is pretty much dead or dying nowadays, as in there's not many new producers recreating the original sound - not that i'm aware of anyway. It has evolved and will go off in several different directions however, with obviously the noisier/more popular stuff being incorporated into more commercial tunes with collabs with people such as bieber for example, and the more minimal direction moving into dub-techno/ techno and even house.
So to answer your question it is going off into several directions.

All the teenstepahs will grow up, and they will allow T&A threads again... It's all we can really hope for.
Srsly, I would just enjoy the ride.

End up like drum and bass? As far as I can tell, DnB is still an awesome genre, in my book...more than I can say for "dubstep".
At this point, I think dubstep has split into two very different genres that are going in two very different directions:
Theres the midrange-based tunes that seems to get a lot more attention. This can't technically be considered dubstep, though, because dubstep is defined by its BPM and focus on the bass area of the spectrum. Brostep is focused on midrange, not bass...therefore, it isn't dubstep. These tunes continue to get louder and 'filthier' as time goes on.
Then there's the bass-oriented genre that isn't very popular, called Dubstep. This follows the technical definition of dubstep, unlike the previously mentioned. These tunes continue to go in the minimal direction the genre has always gone.

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
I honestly don't think it'll have much mainstream staying power. I can actually see a lot of the big producers now gravitate toward electro in the near future, but who knows. Regardless, I see dubstep becoming more and more of a niche genre again.
Cars were originally made for transportation. Now people drive them in circles for sport;therefore, they're not cars.

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
That happens with every single genre. As Heather Heart once said (paraphrase) "we're on the cutting edge, and it's something maybe the mainstream might get into later. By then, we're already on to the next thing." You think pop always sounded like club music with 909s and synths? Hardly.
The 'mainstream' moves slow as hell. Dubstep had already morphed and moved on long before they started abusing the stereotype sounds. The stuff that's popular in the mainstream right now is only one such example, as half-time drums and distorted wobble synths weren't even the original dubstep sound anyway. That style came later, and was replaced by another and so on...

Different concept entirely...here's the equivalent of what I was saying applied towards cars:Attila wrote:Sweet logic.jrisreal wrote: This can't technically be considered dubstep, though, because dubstep is defined by its BPM and focus on the bass area of the spectrum. Cars were originally made with four wheels, a steering system, and seats for passengers. If cars started being manufactured with wings rather than wheels, it would be an airplane, not a car. This is because the concept of the car is no longer being followed.

That isnt the evolution of cars though. Thats the invention of the flying car.jrisreal wrote:Different concept entirely...here's the equivalent of what I was saying applied towards cars:Attila wrote:Sweet logic.jrisreal wrote: This can't technically be considered dubstep, though, because dubstep is defined by its BPM and focus on the bass area of the spectrum. Exactly. It's no longer a car, it's something else.Sinestepper wrote:That isnt the evolution of cars though. This is very similar to my opinion. But I was trying to be relevant with the OP.Nevalo wrote:honestly, who fucking cares. end of the day, its all music whether we like it or not.
Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
Yeah but that would be the equivalent of ripping the concept of the chorus out of a song and leaving 30 seconds of silence in every track instead.jrisreal wrote:Exactly. Brostep and traditional dubstep both have all the same elements (parts of car), it's just in one iteration a different element is accentuated (midbass vs subbass) and maybe the overall objective is different (high energy vs more laid back). Hell now that I'm writing this out, it's more like brostep's a lifted jeep, while traditional dubstep's a low-riding Impala.
And I do realize how ridiculous this argument is.
Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
It seems people are just holding on to the term 'dubstep' too much. Yeah the Justin Bieber sounded like stereotypical 2012 dubstep to me, and that's what it was meant to be. He wanted 'what's hot in the club right now'.
So what... The term was stupid to begin with anyway. Let it go imo.

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
Dubstep will still be around for a long time, it will just slowly die and create more sub genres. And ya, this argument is ridiculous.

Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
well i wasn't really talking about the roots, more the old digital mystikz type stuff which would universally be referred to as "real" dubstep,Nevalo wrote:what, so you're telling me that theres no dark garage being made these days?stranger_sounds wrote:Dubstep as was originally known is pretty much dead or dying nowadays, as in there's not many new producers recreating the original sound - not that i'm aware of anyway. but even so i'm not really hearing much dark garage these days no, unless you would consider a lot of the so called "future garage" stuff which is coming out to be dark

There are no wings.
Re: In which direction is Dubstep going??
Personally, I think wings would look so much cooler on the Impala.
