Delay problem!

Post by talizman » Wed Jun 20, 2012 4:43 pm

Hey!

I'm working with delay's right now, and my problem is that the delay is playing multiple notes at the same time and it sounds false.

How do i make the delay stop when another note is played so the delay doesn't layer up.
Or if there's another way to work around this problem.

Thanks!

put the delay on a different channel, then gate the delay channel to your synth channel.

or, bounce each note and cut off the tails.

Automation is your best friend!

Alternatively, duplicate the sound/VST and have only one with the delay.

shorten the feedback and or time and or wet dry. each of those will affect how you hear the resultant delay enough twiddling about you should be able to get the delays as loud and long as you would want.

another alternative, especially if you have a very stright forward echo style delay.....dont use the delay, slap the sound in a sampler and write in the notes where you want it to delay and use velocity to make it sound delayish and not repeaty.

Turn the feedback right down. Or put your delay onto a return channel, whack the dry/wet all the way to wet, send the original track to it and put a sidechained compressor after the delay, with the sidechain being triggered by the original sample.
