You don't really see many people at the "up and coming" level making deep. i would bet that mala is the most popular on this forum yet hardly anyone makes tunes in the same vein as him.

Well he's got a really unique style that is hard to copy because it's not defined by the sounds he uses (like it is with brostep artists), it's more about vibe and pacing and harmony than anything. There isn't exactly a "Medi" plug in or synth preset.

I'd say that I'm making deep, just not at the same level of most people in this thread

ie leg, Hudson, and sonika

I wouldn't call Wait dungeon, but I get the feeling of darkness from it (as Seven produces a lot of dark and dungeon anyways), but mmmkay

Genres are dumb, sub genres even more so. Tune sounding good vs. tune sounding not good...fuck the label.

right, I think the obsession over categorization is dumb - however I don't see why people are so adamantly against it. Labeling of genres does have a purpose, when I go into a record shop, I walk over to the "2step/garage/grime/dubstep" section, because that's the categories that I'm interested in. Genres and names serve a purpose.

I'm here for the community as much as I am the music. And it's not like we solely discuss Dubstep anyway. We have the 4x4 stuff, we have techno threads, DnB threads, a House subforum...labelling is there purely for organisational purposes.

But when the importance of semantics overtakes the vibe...bad times.

right but semantics and "vibes" can exist exclusive from each other
