Burgeamon - I really, really, really like that Sleaze mix, I'd honestly love to hear it when it's finished.

BudSpencertron - Loving the drum intro, is that sampled? And I think the "breathing" sound from 0.35 really adds a nice touch and helps with the Bollywood vibe you're trying to achieve.

jrisreal (below) - Have you thought of or tried layering the intro with the piano? Just a thought, but I think that they would harmonize together pretty well.

Okay guys, this is my first track, EVER. I've been using FL studio for a while however, just learning what each parameter does and such, and this is my first true attempt at something. Criticism is greatly appreciated!

Note that I was really just aiming to try a lot of different things in this song, and I'm fully aware that the little vocal sample half way through the song is terrible and needs to go ;-)

^ Post feedback to other people's tunes before expecting feedback on your own.

CrunkNugget » thanks for the suggestion. I have no plans for that loop, so I don't care to modify it, but thank you for the criticism. Your tune is pretty unique, and I like it a lot. Only thing I'd suggest is to, rather than pitching the bass sound down with that square lfo thing, to make it play notes within the key but decrementing for each one.

almostskate100 » biggups man! Thanks for the feedback on both of my WIPs, taking all your feedback into consideration. Yours is confusing and constantly unexpected, which I think is fantastic! Those glitchy sounds are great, as well, but I think they're too often used...I'd suggest reducing the amount of the high-pitched sounds and replacing the missing spaces with something lower in frequency or just leaving it blank, whichever sounds better. It's already an awesome tune, though, good job!

Burgeamon » Tune is way punchier than before, if I'm remembering. Still not my style, but I could definitely listen to it. While frequency conflitcts/detuning play a huge roll in the way your tune sounds, I think you should tone that down just a bit, it's slightly painful to listen to all that. Keep it up, though, big tune!

In my last post in this thread, I didn't put enough emphasis on which tune I'd prefer feedback on. So here's this one again.

Ah yes, I actually did read that on the first page, still managed to forget to do it when I posted, my apologies. Appropriate changes have been made to my post.

Also my feedback on your tune is in reference to the one you just posted.

Burgeamon -> It seems to me that the sample in the beginning "until they kick us out..." is a bit quiet and gets lost a bit in the rest of the drums/buildup/etc. might just be me though. After the drop however is fantastic haven't heard the original song but if that part's yours then its outstanding but if it's not then it's still very full-sounding and well mixed.

Dotcurrency -> I've got to say although there are the typical faults of a beginning track, gain structure, build-ups, sub-bass and other things of the like, you definitely sound like you know what you want your tracks to sound like and that's all it takes. Throw in some determination and focus and you'll have awesome songs coming together for you in no time. Overall, you're off to a good start and keep at it!

jrisreal -> Loving the atmosphere on this! It definitely invokes a sort of dark/mournful/beautiful feeling inside of me if that's what you're going for. The piano is amazing and that bass that comes in with it is really strong and adds just what it needs. For going forward with this track I'd say just don't ditch the piano.

For this track I'm going to focus on EQ'ing everything just so that it sounds solid and you could hear everything clearly. I've been at producing for a little over a year now so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some fundamentals that I'm overlooking. Also, out of boredom one day I made the siren sound so I decided to put it in there and go for an Air-Raid theme (it'll be managed in later). I think that I'm missing something leading up to the break before the drop but I don't know what to add and I don't know where to go after the track ends. More bass and wobbles or a bit of melody? Lastly, I haven't really been able to come up with a good build-up so any help with that would be awesome and this build-up is by no means finished. Criticism, complaints, questions all welcome!

dotcurrency » sick tune. I love the soft pads.1:35 gets pretty weird, but nice in some twisted way. Play with this tune some more, it's pretty unique...just see what more you can do with it. good work :)
Re: your feedback...I don't think that would fit very well. The piano is of a slightly different chord progression...a more 'depressing one', while the stringed instruments are in a slightly 'happier' chord progression.

Trapdoor » Big thanks for the feedback! Everything taken into consideration.
During the first drop... You need to follow a scale...no offense, but it sounds like you placed notes randomly without thinking about how they fit together. Without taking musicality into consideration, everything sounds nice tonally.

Haha none taken, thanks that's exactly the kind of criticism I needed to hear. This is a problem that I probably should have tackled a long time ago but I don't really know that much about scales and music theory in general so I'll get on that and hopefully change it up a bit so that it flows better. Thanks for the feedback though!

Thanks! My goal now is to be able to define what I want the tune to sound like a lot better.

Also I really liked your track! What did you use to make the sound between about 1.30 - 1.32?

Thank you! Well there's a few different sounds there, it changes pretty quickly so it's hard to know which one you're talking about exactly. The one at 1:30 is just a square wave with some pitch modulation. The other two are a bit more complex and kind of difficult to explain since you're using FL Studio but I could if you want to know.

The one right after the square wave, thats the one I'm referring too. And I'd love to know, who knows, I might be able to figure out how to mimic the sound in one of my synths. I'm not too bad with NI: Massive

EDIT: It's the one that sounds as if it has been bitcrushed, if that helps.

Mine's only slightly different than the one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3bH5o7mDg8&feature=plcp
You should use a separate plug-in for the cutoff modulation though, you could use one that's built into a synth like Massive but I find its easier with an individual plug-in. This guy's got loads of great tutorials although they're all for logic there's still some good advice here and there if you feel like picking through them. Hope that helps!

CRUZ: Nice track, but in my honest opinion, it's a little too repetitive. Try changing things up, even a little and I think it'll be a good jump-ish like track.

As a formality, I'll feed back the next tunes people post.

Thanks! I'll be sure to check it out soon, also the last tune I posted, you said it has the typical "beginner" sound, and I saw that, so I wrote something else today;

Really proud of this one, definitely plan to do something with this.
Top priority at the moment for this track is to tidy up what I have so far in the second drop.

dotcurrency:
I really liked wip-2. The intro is very familiar to the GTA IV soundtrack in feeling. Quite nice. Would definatley suit some game or movie!

Cruz:
Great mixing there! When the voice came in I started laughing. :D Very enjoyable track. Very well use of the 3D soundspace. Also sounds abit like a soundtrack for a game of some sort. Dirty synths I love. <3 :D

jrisreal:
Really emotional... really loved it. Sounds great. Perhaps abit more dynamics in velocity on the piano would make it sound more human/give it more feeling? Make the chords/basslines of the piano softer would make wonders making the melody come out more. I loved the sub bass. Great grainy effect put on it! Love it. =)

BTW, how to comment a song? :corntard:

So after attempting to make a few house songs I went straight into making my first real song at 140bpm.
I noticed I don't know shit about mixing... everything is just all over the place and I feel like abandoning the track.

Should I start all over or should I keep working on it? Here it is:

Sorry y'all for posting a track and not giving feedback, shoulda read the rules before I let my noobness show.

@4rantare- Don't stop working on it, that track is tight as hell, just listened to it 3 times.

@dotcurrency - Love the build up and drop, and the frog noise or whatever that is..haha. I love using random sounds too.

@jrisreal - You got good tone going on there man. For real. It sounds good on my shitty laptop speakers, so that says alot!

And thanks to y'all for the feedback on my work in progress. Totally agree about the repetitive-ness

jrisreal: Beautiful, really like it. I really admire when someone has the patience to create a slow but far from boring melody like this. The only complaint the noise audible at around 1:08, it's a little disturbling.

Trapdoor: As mentioned before, the melody is not working. For starters, maybe you should just to go with some of the most common chord progressions and play around with them. If you ask me about the buildup, my problem would be that the siren sound alone doesn't "worth" 20 seconds if you know what I mean. But to say something positive as well, I like the bass drop ;-)

dotcurrency: Nice tune. I would say it's a little bit too straightforward, but it is a really good starting point.

4rantare: You should keep workin on it :) I think it sounds good, except that the vocal samples are a little messy for me.

As for me, I have been working with this high pitch sound for a while, but couldn't build a complete track around it. So, I collected the main ideas in this 1 minute sample just for why not. Any opinion is very much appreciated, even if it will take me a while to start working on it again.

Just for clarification are you and jr talking about the notes before the drop?

dotcurrency: That second track has got some great potential and a cool melody. Definitely would like to hear it when its finished!

4rantare: That sounded really good, loved the melody you've got in the beginning and after the drop sounded great. The only thing that I would change is your kick. I can definitely tell that its there but it has no "umph" to it in the low end. It may be fine by itself but with the bass that's coming out after the drop it might be getting lost. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

bBLUU: I'm digging the part before the drop a lot. After the drop though it's a little too high pitch for my taste, but I like that sort of ray gun sound at :34. I'd say don't abandon the high-pitch synth but put it in with some other sounds and I think it should be fine.
