Help with creating this dark synth!
I've really been into dark lately. Specificaly this dark with a sort of heavy bass synth in it. These tunes are an example of what I mean.

Could anyone explain me on how to make this kind of synth? The synth i'm talking about is the one that drops in at 0:26 seconds into the tunes. I use Fruity Loops 10 and massive if that info is a help.

Re: Help with creating this dark synth!
Do you mean the "bass" or the lead?
Re: Help with creating this dark synth!
Ow, sorry. Forgot to mention! I mean the bass!
Re: Help with creating this dark synth!
Im going to say in massive, try using the performer instead of an lfo... thats really it.
Make a synth sound that you like, place a performer on the pitch of your osc. and make sure you set up an interesting pattern. Thats about it.

Re: Help with creating this dark synth!
Thank you for your response! But i've been experimenting for ages with the sounds and the performers on the pitch but i'm not even getting close! Any thoughts of what wave forms, patterns i should pick?
Re: Help with creating this dark bass synth!
in massive, use the scrapyard osc, modulate the position with a LFO, try to find the spot where it sounds like metal being scrapped (). Apply the same LFO to the pitch. Split the frequencies, apply a quick delay and a flanger to the mid/hi channel for that metallic sound. Apply distortion and resample to taste, send it to a bright reverb.

Thank you man! That's getting me somewhere! The only thing that bothers me is that I don't know how to split the frequencies. I'm pretty new to this, i'm afraid :/.

To do this in FL10, you'd have your synth going to a channel on the mixer (lets say channel 1), then route the signal from channel 1 to channels 2, 3 & 4. On each of 2, 3 and 4 you put a filter, to allow through only the lows, only the mids, and only the highs respectively. You could then apply effects to only one frequency range but not the others.
Re: Help with creating this dark bass synth!
Ok so with all those steps followed, i came to this as an end result: Soundcloud.
I don't know why, but i'm obviously still way off to the sound i actually want to reach. I'm obviously doing something wrong, but i can't tell what.

Re: Help with creating this dark bass synth!
I'm confused, there's not really a lot of emphasis on bass in any of the clips in this thread.

I've got the feeling this might be a reason ting.
Kinda reminds me of funtcases basslines for some reason, maybe worth checking out the tutorial he did.

I'm pretty positive these guys work with fruityloops. And I'm not here to replicate funtcase's sounds. I'm not interested in those.

Sorry but what does all this mean? I just mean the synth after the drop at 00:26 second in the tune!
