Re: Benga doesn’t ‘want to be any part of dubstep anymore’
I think Benga's made enough amazing tunes to be allowed to do whatever he wants, he wants to move up as everyone chasing their musical dream does too an extent...he can't grow within dubstep anymore perhaps?
I still like everything i hear from him personally though

Can't believe some of the comments, not a massive fan of his most recent output but he has produced such a diverse range of tunes throughout the years. Also, I swear benga has a huge amount of unreleased tunes.. Bang on old rinse mixes e.g n-type and I always hear benga tunes which never saw the light of day, his essential mix the majority of his tunes never saw release... Need some bengaizm's
Re: Benga doesn’t ‘want to be any part of dubstep anymore’
nah, not gunna kill this thread that easily
and wondering if Mr. Benga himself
would be good enough to come on here
(maybe even miss an opportunity to do something better, to do so)
or another "secret" place
& tell us what he properly thinks about dubstep nowdays
I mean, I still love the garage/breakstep/dubstep transition
and I can never read enough about how the participants were seeing the scene then
and, shit
Benga was there
I saw him with my own eyes, years late at VOID
shook his hand over the decks & he was cool, just digging himself & the opportunity
playing the best shit whatever that was in 06...
& earlier Loefah breakstep, Plasticnan grime, HP's minimal
& Jack Sparra sorta stuff
the bassweight things, rollers, stuff steppas wanted thru a system.
His energy was infectious (I got mumps)
It was a bit different the next time he came out with Middle1/3Artwerk
the stardom thing had begun...festival crowds had tuned in.
The party seemed more important than the music.
The sound was pissweak compared to Hijak
which was up the road with locals, MP
at least 4 dsf posters & N-Type doing an insane set
so at 15 he finds a nugget of dubstep
and now he says he's over it
....or whatever negative comment about ds that he's imagined to have meant
If I were a betting man (& what are the odds that I am not?)
I'd put up a considerable sum (in Bangla Desh)
on the following proposition being correct:
Benga is, whether grudgingly, unwillingly or not, part of dubstep. Irrevocably. Forever. Got no choice about this one man. Part of history you are.
But then we'll probably never know what he thinks about that. Not now. Too recent.

As $10 Bag & Rats said, 2006's beautiful, exuberant Benga's not coming back...so moving along.

I'm beginning to think the man is going to trade music for extreme sports...
Please, DO NOT give Benga one of those flying squirrel suits...
He'll never touch a synthesizer again...

That was weird.
I just imagined Mala giving Benga a t-shirt.
He didn't need it anymore.
It had powers.
and the request ^^^^^^^still stands

Hi SD5 this is benga,
sorry just had to log on using JTM's log in because im very busy preparing my sunday roast and couldnt remember my password.
To be honest mate i think dubstep is completely different to what it used to be and im kinda going off the whole scene at the moment im more into my tearout flamenco jazz fusion.
Yours sincerely
Benga

To ninjas:Sorry,
despite the rumours,
This is Jenga.
Please don't post in this thread unless you really want to take something from the bottom of the thread and delicately place it higher up.
Trying to leave it sort of a precariously teetering tower of posts.
To Benga: Don't read that shit above. Just don't let it fall over.

not to seem ignorant or whatever but being as he's considered one of the pioneers of the sound, i've only ever actually liked about four or five of his beats anywayparticle-jim wrote:Meh, his recent output has been pretty poor anyways, not overly fussed
