Hahahah standard...
But yeah it is a shame about plastic people, considering it's been so pivotal in the birth of this scene and what not. Ah well, wasn't gonna last forever. Guess it's kinda like the old Metalheadz nights in.... (blue something??) I take it that place doesnt exist anymore? Same with the Hacienda and The End? I'm sure theres many more. However it's quite sad how Plastic People are kinda... trying hard to stay on it, fighting through closures and making promises to keep sound at a certain level etc... Maybe it should just fizzle into history and FWD moves on

I haven't been to FWD in ages but I agree for bass music Plastic People has pretty much had its day!
I like the new soundsystem when Theo Parrish plays on it but I agree it could still be louder. I find it strange that even some of the dubstep pioneers that swear by vinyl are switching to CD. I'm pretty sure if you asked Plastic People they would set up some proper decks!
I know for a fact that Gilles Peterson, Theo Parrish, Floating Points and Benji B have all played there recently on some audiophile decks with no pitch control. If Plastic People have those surely they can manage two 1210s in decent nick.
(CD DJs seriously need to stop putting their wallets on the tone arms or any where on the decks for that matter. Have some DAMN respect people!)
Clubs and promoters who pay attention to sound quality and bass are dieing! Now days it is convenience and money over anything else. The love for the art and vibe have been lost completely 95% of the time.

Quick question: if i put a CD wallet on the platter (NOT the tonearm)
Is it doing harm to the turntable?

Re: Last night's FWD at Plastic People at all time low??
Probably not doing a massive amount of harm as 1210s are built like tanks but with DJs constantly abusing decks in this way it probably doesn't help in the long run.johney wrote:Quick question: if i put a CD wallet on the platter (NOT the tonearm)

Putting anything on the tone arms will mess them up in a very short space of time.

Even skrillex can mix using cdj's, proves that a blindfolded monkey could use them. You dont deserve the title of 'dj' if you cant mix with vinyl.

Re: Last night's FWD at Plastic People at all time low??
It was pretty disappointing, it alway is now tho. I have to keep reminding myself its still good but why isn't it as good as it used to be? They haven't given us one single justified reason as to why the system is so piss quiet since the refit. What caused that? That's what drives me mad. Surely the staff and DJs are getting so fed up of requests to turn it up every single week. We aren't just suddenly going to forget what it used to be like in there.
My thoughts were maybe it was due to noise complaints from the restaurant above. Fine, that would make sense. Couldn't really argue with that. Who's gonna want to eat a meal with the sound of a post apocalyptic warzone happening beneath your feet? This was quickly disproved when I went for a cig and it was closed about 12:00 - 12:30 YET they still werent turning it up, or more the level of the subs. FWD needs to move to a different club if they won't listen to the fans.
Its boring. Even during a Yunx set I'm bored after an hour because I'm not physically feeling the tunes. There's no vibe, just a bunch of like minded people wishing for something better. Fucking tragic if you ask me.

if the blindfolded monkey can do that, it can also mix on turntables. the technical process of pitching and beatmatching is basically the same. cdjs got a few advantages regarding cueing and handling, but people are exaggerating when they act like cdjs vs tts are two completely different things. there are some horrible cdjs, that are a pain in the ass, same like some fucked decks...JBoy wrote:Even skrillex can mix using cdj's, proves that a blindfolded monkey could use them. As to whether maintaining decks is a big task for a big club?
Listen people, I can only speak for myself but I help run a Youth Club that first off, only has a 150-170'ish capacity. Ad we can only do like 10 events per year, about 5-6 (usually every two months) involve DJ'ing/electronic artists. We have a decent sound system, a state of the art club certified lighting system. And we have TWO decks in perfect condition AT ALL TIME. They're not that hard to maintenance: if a skeleton crew of about 5 people can do it doing only about 5-6 times a year (+ the odd practice session
), how can any self-respecting club not do that?
The secret behind it for me is that all our resident DJ's are vinyl only! There's about 20 people still doing vinyl only in Belgium and our residents must be 3 of them but it ensures that there's always quality decks to work with. Needles are supplied by ourselves as well and thus are guaranteed to work.
We did have them stolen on one occasion 4-5 years ago.
Nowadays, we can't book a night without CDJ's any more though so much is true. Last guy we had over was Proxima (tempa), before that we had Cookie Monstah (I know, not my choice) and a couple of other names from the same calibre. Only our residents played vinyl the last two or three nights. Times a changing.

I went last week for DJ Madd (who is always on first, whats with that?!) gotta say its better, felt more weight than before so I think they are finally sorting it out. Its not earth shattering but good enough I'd saywilson wrote:Considering going down this Thursday, would like to know how the sound is now too if anyone has been recently?messsingh wrote:I hear they have installed new subs down Plastic People!

Was anyone there for Yunx last night?
First time I've been since the refurb, maybe it was because my expectations were really low based on reviews here, but I didn't think the system was too bad!
I mean, it was a bit quiet, the low-end wasn't quite heart rattling, but it was more than sufficient. Nowhere near as bad as people have been making out I thought.

Was there, honestly man its so much better now than the last what... nearly a year or so since they practically destroyed it? Lost count but the bottom line is PLASTIC PEOPLE IS BACK YO. Bassweight is now at certified acceptable levels.meanmrcustard wrote:Was anyone there for Yunx last night?
