New to the scene, where do i start?

Post by stigmadj » Tue Jul 10, 2012 8:58 pm

Easy all, this is very broad i know but i've been making some housey vibes recently and just started an alias (upon the suggestion of my dungeon dubstep listeners) to release said vibes. :4:

I'm in to Mosca, Boddika, Dusky, Bareskin, Khan etc. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some artists for me to get in to as well as checking out the two tracks i've uploaded.

More importantly perhaps, where do i send these for promotion? being new i have no idea what channels/dj's are good :(
Ideally i would like some facebook pages or youtube channels. Thanks for reading, if you did! :)

firstly, welcome home

in terms of artists you've got a nice base. i'd look at labels like Swamp 81, 502 Recordings, or artists like Addison Groove, Zed Bias, Pinch, Trevino (Marcus Intalex), Happa, Mala, Pearson Sound and move from there...I guess one thing really leads to the next, you will continue to consistently find new artists

also check out stations like Rinse FM or RWD FM and see which artists you like and if they play your kind of music, maybe you could start sending your stuff to them and just getting your music out there

After listening to your stuff I recommend Deadboy, Joy O & Disclosure. Although in my experience I found focusing on labels a lot more helpful than artists.

Regarding sending your tunes around it I think it probably would help if you waited til you knew more about the scene before you started sending stuff around. Most DJ's tend to have a certain sound, it would probably help if you knew what they played before you sent them music.

Yeah, well Im not much of a fan, but I read his post wrong, I thought he wanted people to send tunes to, not like looking for tracks to listen to.

For non-UK house you can listen to Jamie Principle, Marshall Jefferson, Energy Flash by Joey Beltram. Anything on Trax Records is good.

Just find some decent record shops/online stores and go hunting.

Try to create your own signature sound and not just follow the same structure as everyone else by buying and playing records from the same old labels from the same old artists.
