Derek Gangi - Archons (Dubstep/Facestep)

Post by derekgangi » Wed Jul 11, 2012 3:00 pm

Wassabi? I'm a newcomer to the forum and the dubstep scene.

After producing my first "dubstep/facestep/punch your friends in the face/whatever-step" track titled Archons, I figured this would be the ideal place to share my new noise and learn while doing so, since YouTube is like a jungle and my SoundCloud account is lonely lol.

Being this is actually my first track, any feedback is welcomed :)

For those whom are curious, I rock Ableton Live and Massive with my own custom patch for the noise.

Looking forward to making new creative friends in the scene and I hope you all enjoy. :Q:

Awesome work! This does not sound like a first track, it sounds like someone who has plenty of practice perfecting sound design and mixdowns. Your bass patches are great, and I feel that they work really well with your melody as well. My single suggestion/complaint is that I would like to see more of a buildup before your first drop. It's really a matter of personal preference, but I like to be kept on the edge of my seat. Anyways, a fantastic track, especially for your first! Keep doing what you're doing, and I'll be checking out your future tunes as well!

Sounds a little thin. Are you putting effects on the master channel?

Wow! Thanks for the compliments man, I really appreciate it.

I completely agree with you too. When I was building the song, I wanted to have a big drop in it, but I couldn't really figure out a way to accomplish that with my limited knowledge thus far, so I figured i'd just continue on with the song and move on from there.

I'm currently working on my next track, this time however i'll give special attention to the build up and tweaking my bass patches ever so slightly.

Thanks again for the feedback!

By thin, do you mean it has airy (is that even a word?) properties?

The only thing I put on my master channel is my limiter and 8 channel equalizer, nothing else. All effects are attached to the specific instruments in their own rows within Ableton.

I wouldn't say thin I'd say brittle.

This track has a lot of energy, for a first track it really is good :W: I think what he meant when saying thin is there's a lot of high end / abundance of distortion which is pushing all the energy into the high end without the bottom being filled out. Maybe ease off on the distortion or try to fill some of the space in the low-end?

Big up

Thanks man! :D After you explaining it that way, I completely understand what you both mean now.

Guess I have more room in the box of sound than I originally thought  I'll be sure to keep that in mind while working on my next tracks.
