HAHAHAHAHA
Yeeeep, nwj got his minibrute (and a major analog hardon).
So after I posted that post above, I think I sat here at my desk with the minibrute in my lap, for like an hour, just smelling this thing. 100% not joking.
To answer the question of whether this thing is smooth... no, imo this thing cannot be tamed. :O) maybe with an external filter... I cannot tame this thing. Even a sin sub osc, straight out, no brute, no filter, no rez, nothing, and it is still just, like, chunky. HAHAHA. I have to say I am a real durty bird, generally speaking. And this synth is really hitting my durty buttons. It really is aptly named the minibrute. It REALLY is brutish. Every sound I've come up with is just fucking chunky. If you want a real smooth ethereal synth, I don't know, maybe a Prophet? The mBrute is like, what, a cockney thug, some kind of scarred brawler.
Will write up a proper reviewish kind of thing later, and will sort out some samples and some kontakt patches (was thinking about upgrading my kontakt [through komplete] while their summer sale is on [was going to do it last year, but missed it by a day]), don't know what version I'll do it in. Maybe 3.5 and just save them out at also at whatever kontakt is at now, wait, I prolly can't do that. NI let you have two versions installed? Maybe I can, I think they do.

Re: minibrute just arrived
Mine's still not supposed to be shipped until the end of this month...and then I have to wait for a friend to ship it out to Japan
Can't really complain though, bought it as a birthday present for myself for $400, I know it's coming here eventually and will be happy once it arrives. I actually still haven't figured out where I'm gonna put it yet

If you're asking me, I definitely will. Think I'mma start with some kontakt and reason nnxt patches, then I'll see about some ableton racks. I've just been working with kontakt tonight figuring out how best to do this. I'm not much of a kontakt user (up until now, kontakt is pretty dope though) so expect a bit of a delay, but for sure. I'll put them up on my website, and also pass them over to komanderkin on the bedroom producer's blog.
Just like to point out that the greatest benefit of this synth is not the sound, but the playability and live tweakability, specially with the arp and fucked up lfo's and pitchbends and subosc switch and brute factor (sharma, I guarantee you will come to find the value in the brute factor
) and cutoff and rez, and all the rest... so none of that will really be playable as sampler patches. Which sucks. But the sampler patches will have dope simple and fucked up sounds.

Re: minibrute just arrived
well you can turn kontakt into a fully playable synth that rivals a lot of software vsts but its not gonna sound anywhere close to the minibrute since kontakt has entirely different filter models, modulation et cetera.
the thing i'd be curious about is the metalizer or what its called, maybe with kontakts AET it can be mimicked somehow (i have yet to hear an actually engaging use of AET though, so far it's always been used in fucking boring ways)
however thats some really advanced shit, id be fine with some samples mapped to keys as well
have fun with your brute i hope i can buy one next year

Haha, have just heard of AET tonight, and I don't even know what it is. I'm still running 3.5, but we'll see
.

Well a similar UAD2 with plugs to mine just sold for £1597, so if i can sell mine for around that, I might well grab one of these. Shoudl have change after my big desk and 24 track hard drive recorder...

This is where im at at the mo, fuck pissing about drawing automation and squinting at a screen with a mouse, fuck all that.nowaysj wrote: Just like to point out that the greatest benefit of this synth is not the sound, but the playability and live tweakability, specially with the arp and fucked up lfo's and pitchbends and subosc switch and brute factor

Re: minibrute just arrived
Okay, was tweaking today, and as I was turning a knob, a kind of fucked up resonance started happening, and I started getting dizzier and dizzier, felt like my head was going numb, I thought I was going to pass out (seriously not kidding in the slightest), tweaked the knob the other way and it instantly went away. Hoping the DoD does not find the minibrute.
