Yeah you need an interface for most monitors, and mixers are interfaces
Chances are, if they're USB monitors, they're shit

Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread

Horribly blurry phone shot of my setup
KRK RP5s, Focusrite Saffire Scarlett, MacBook pro 15", pair of CDJ-200s, Denon DJM-100, Stanton turntable, assorted vinyl
Are my monitors way too close to my head or the wall? I know fuck all about speaker placement

At least 50cm.
Rather spread them and angle inwards slightly.

Thanks mate. Looking forward to getting these monitors mate. I might get a mixer or a Mackie Onyx Blackjack. Looks like a quality interface. Phantom power so i might get a condenser for small vocals or sounds i cant find. Might get a percussion mic for little jingles, lighters, coins, and stuff to sample. Might sample rain too.Sonika wrote:Marzz wrote:Dope man.kimsho wrote:

they are definitely too low. ideal height for monitors, when you`re sitting is 100 - 110 cm. average desk height is 70 cm. You cant go wrong with buying speaker stands, you can hardly destroy them and can basically use them forever and in any studio setup you have in the future.
I would pull the desk out and place the monitors behind the desk on the speaker stands.
Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
The TV isn´t mine, it´s my old room mate´s... I would never go and buy a giant TV like that to use for production...I would much rather use 2 x 24" pc monitors...The monitors (rokit 5's) was all i could afford at the time when i bought them...They still do the trick + + ....I'll prob upgrade in the future but im quite happy with my setup atm...spire wrote:thats what i was thinking, couldve spent a hair more on monitors.....lol.drake89 wrote:giant tv, tiny speakers. i would go with the opposite hehe

Nah, the ideal height for monitors is having the tweeter at ear level, wherever that may be. No need for a tape measure.Eridu wrote:ideal height for monitors, when you`re sitting is 100 - 110 cm. average desk height is 70 cm..................

I'd leave the desk where it is and move your speakers away from the wall, raising them up on something if necessary. Having them right up against the wall or in a corner will make your bass go wild.
