Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Right heres a tune i've been working on, trying to get the sp:mc and lx one sound down let me know what you think feedback in every single way is welcome.
Soundcloud
@Krinj - it's sounding really sick really like what you've done so far, one thing i would say is just add a couple of extra little sounds in the background just to keep the interest of the listener, like the odd vocal shout or sound fx, just to keep it changing all the time
@Maza1 - mid range bass is sounding cool, i'd just bring up the over all level of the drums in the mix and also add a bit more reverb to the hi hats and the snare in particular, also just fetten up the snare maybe layer it up with a couple of other fat sounding snares just to give it more impact.
@Ocelots Revolver - i'd again say bring up the level of the drums and fatten up the snare as well as maybe maybe to some eqing with peaks at a high q so hollow out the sound of the midrange growl to get it sounding sharper and a bit more defined. also try adding some splahier cymbals to the drums or maybe even try over laying an old break just to bring all the drums together.

@ArrenMog Pretty interesting tune man, love how you transition the bass in so fluidly, works really well and everything's sounding pretty dope through what I'm listening through atm, not sure what else to suggest haha, dope tune man
@mthrfnk Loving the vibe of this man, got a nice upbeat feel to it and I feel like it will be dope as fuck with some vocals! The vocals that are in currently sound really good and I can only imagine what it'll be like when finished! haha, sounds dope man
@Krinj Weird intro, that bitcrushed synth could have some highs cut off and maybe brought down in volume a little bit, liking that heavy sub bass in the background though, and the FX on the main bass, would maybe make snare slightly punchier and side chain some stuff together, mebbe chuck in some high hats and spice 'em up a bit, otherwise nice track, interested too see how you're gonna progress with it
Here's a track I've been working on a little while, hopefully getting some decent headphones for monitoring soon, but in the mean time any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Feedback for others:
@ArrenMog Nice perc, the bass teasing in is also nice. The mix is nice and clean, sounds very airy. Imo you need another layer to the track - either a melody on top, some swooshing pads or maybe even some more off beat perc.
@VirusTI Pretty sure I gave feedback on this before. First thing I noticed - the panned hats are a good idea but a little distracting - either tune that down a little or perhaps add panned delay instead of panning the hat itself. Synths are nice, but need to be sidechained more - the drums are way overpowered. I really like this track man - it just needs a bit better mixing and polishing off
Rework of my track is below, not too sure on the male vox though - too cheesy
?

Feedback is always appreciated

This is semi-dubstep. Very experimental. Branching out into my roots here. Y'all who don't know me, I'm not about the regular mapped out tracks. I follow no rules. Rather into textures and variations. Enjoy.
@mthrfnk
Sick rave leads. The vox are so crisp. sounds like a radio tune. Well done mate. you are definitely on your way to putting out quality hits.
@VirusTI
holy shit, 2 minutes in, I wanna drop this in a DJ set. Leading up, I couldnt imagine how you were going to drop it, but BOOM! Thats a solid drop. Seriously cant believe the talent thats being presented on this forum right now. Congrats mate. You made an MVP with that tune.
@ArrenMog
hella grime. I love this kind of stuff. if only you kept the grime up, my speakers could keep up. You got a lot of sub mate. If thats your sole purpose to the melody, then well done. If you keep the grime up, you might get more listeners. never the less, well done with the sub and the drums. what else can one need?

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ArrenMog - Nice atmosphere, dude. I don't really know much about dark atmospheres but i'll try to give you some advice
Imo, you should tune your percussion down a bit, the pattern doesn't change much during the whole tune and starts to get kinda annoying because it sticks out so much. The kick pattern doesn't really work imo, the tune is slow and dark but the kick's pattern is relatively fast and doesn't add anything to the tune, try to change velocities or make the whole pattern a bit simpler, maybe it'll sound a bit better.
And as was mentioned before, melody layer won't hurt
@VirusTI - Nice work, you obviously spent quite a lot of time on this tune
Imo, your hi hats stick out too much, they are not supposed to be so loud, percussion is supposed to add rhythmic accents to the groove and that's pretty much it
Transition from the intro to build is kinda harsh imo, i think you should add some filter automation for a smoother transition
The outro is too long for my taste, maybe add some variety? Melody layer or something like that might work.
@mthrfnk Nice work, vox and melodies are awesome
Imo, you should start your percussion later along with the kick/snare and eq it a bit more, it's louder then everything in the intro. Low end is kinda muddy, i think that you need to make it a bit quieter or/and eq it more. Transition from breakdown to chorus is kinda harsh, i think that filtering female vox out before the chrous is not exactly working in this transition.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
Kongret: I like it, the main lead needs to be louder, so I'd say add some overdrive/compression to it.
Danimal: I like how different your sound is! I do however, think that the grainy intro is slightly too long considering that the actual song didn't come in as harsh as that noise was. It's hard to explain but what I'm saying is that I think the grain noise is harsh, and the main synth & drums in the part right after that aren't harsh enough to "compete" with the grain preceding it.
mthrfnk: Simply amazing, really. I have a soft spot for chopped up vocals. I suck at slicing. But you did it perfectly imo. It compliments the melody so well. Big props.
Okay, here's my remix again. I changed quite a lot from the feedback I received. Still a complete beginner here.

Haha I know i've been posting here a lot recently but i've just been producing a lot over the last couple of weeks and this feedbacks helping aha, so here's another one from me called Night Wolf, i'm pretty happy with this one overall just wondering what other people had to say about it preferably fans of dungeon and the youngsta style
Soundcloud
@VirusTI - maybe try sidechaining the sub to the kick drum to give a more pulsating wampy sound aha, and also just try carving out some gaps in the main lead synth on the eq, hollow out the sound at the moment i feel its a bit to big, especially when you've added some vocals over the top of it, maybe bring down its overall level in the mix as well, other than that good stuff man! reminds me of that song that goes 'elephant in the rooooomm.......'
@mthrfnk - Good start on this tune sounding really well made, i know what your saying when you took all the low end out of the kick in the intro but i would maybe not take quite so much out as it sounds a bit weak, and i wouldnt say the male vocals were bad if thats the style your going for, fits really well with the tune.
@Danimal - very out there but i can see where your going with it, one thing i would say is definately reverb on the drums, i only recently discovered how important it is to make a tune sound sick, and try to use the same reverb on all the sounds especially the drums, maybe altering them slightly if it soudns odd as it helps to glue the whole track together, try using a buss with reverb on and then sending all the tracks through that.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@MaZa1 reminds me of cookie monsta in a way, i would just suggest working on transitions alittle more and then you should be set.
@Krinj pretty good start, would recommend adding something like percussion or another layer (pads/atmospheric type stuff) after a number of bars and some work of course should help you finish that proper
@Arrenwog ( sp:mc and lx one sound) diggin this one, beef up the kick or try another one but im lovin the riddim you created, finish it up with some more layers
@mtherfnk lol remove the guy vocals and try adding some more percussion throughout the song to keep it more interesting then you will be good
@Danimal some old school vibes, i enjoyed what you did with the 2nd half of the song. could try adding more space into the mix
@Kongret that squeaky synth is good stuff, i would suggest some reverb on it but thats up to your taste + more work
@dotcurrency try adding some sweeps / improve the transitions is what i would say, also some sub bass underneath the synths would be good
@Arrenwog pretty good start, would just recommend improving the transitions and add a little more percussion
Here's a tune I've been working on which I am trying to complete. From the bounced file I can already see I need to turn the percussion down a bit along with some other stuff in volume and work on transitions a bit more + layers. Any criticism is welcomed (especially about the mixdown) thank you!

@ArrenMog It isn't my style but its cool I guess... nice chilled vibes, I think you should give that bass a bit more character or something though, but that's me.
@mthrfnk It's cool but it reminds me too much of what I hear on the charts. Sounds very poppy. Not my style but well done!
@Danimal That's fucking cool! I really like this, that main synth is deadly, loving it!

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@AcidRat I really like the arpeggiated synth going in the background and wish it was a little more up front in the mix. I'd maybe suggest giving your midrange sound some stereo width and then keeping the arp synth panned dead center, but a lot louder in volume. I think it could help things breathe a little bit. Drums sound good -- nice and punchy. I'd also give your midrange sound some more sub, cuz it seems a little hollow right now. I dig the vocal sample at the beginning too haha. Good start so far man.
@Bola Super dreamy man. I actually think the levels of the drums sound pretty good, except maybe the hats...they probably could be lowered a bit. I'm not a huge fan of the kick drum sample you have, just cuz it sounds a little flat. I get the style you're going for, but I think a little more low end beef in the kick would help a ton. The sub sounds awesome. I actually think the transitions sound pretty good. I don't think going over board on transitions for this type of song would work. You've got some nice subtle phasers and sweeps, and I think that works fine. For layering, maybe try adding some harmonies to that pad that you have, or a quiet arpeggiated synth of some sort, just to add a bit more movement to the second half of the drop. Cool tune man
ArrenMog Night Wolf is pretty deep dude, shit. I love the little growly synth. I only really have a couple of suggestions, since I don't make this style of music at all. I think the snare is a tiny bit too loud, and I think you could vary up the sound of the snare every 4 bars or so-- maybe give it a longer verb tail, or layer some kitchen pot sample over it, or pitch it down--just to give your track a bit more movement. Also, the synth stabs that you have going on throughout most of the song are great. But similar to the snare, I'd do something to change them up every so often...especially at like 1:21, when the last stab hits, I'd crank the delay up on it for that moment. Other percussive elements sound great, especially the hats / shakers / tambs. Great atmosphere man. Keep it up
Here's mine...I think the main wobble might be a little too loud. But let me know what you guys think

@arrenmog (spmc sounding track): sounds good and clean, gets a little repetitive but i guess its not finished yet? also the snare sticks out a bit on top of the mix imo.
@danimal: cool tune, good melodies, only thing that didnt seem right was the snare...sounds muffled..have u cut the highs?
@dotcurrency: catchy vocal. wheres the sample from? in terms of constructive critiscism, the vocal slips out of time towards the end of the intro...happens to me all the time...freewarp usually does the trick, i just drag the words roughly into place...but i find the more you obsess over it the harder it is to tell if its in time..so i usually close my eyes..
heres my tunes folks,...particularly curious if the sub is too weak/non-existant:

@ArrenMog
I really like the synth at 28 seconds that's got a slow filter on it and heavy delay. The tamberine shaker in the background fills out a lot of the percussive frequency nicely. I could picture this as the opening theme for a Kidulthood type movie; very dark, underground vibes. I like.
@mthrfnk
The kick is too harsh. It sounds like a brostep kick to push through those low/mid frequencies. Try a softer kick. Like how the female vocals come in. Male vocals are pretty cheesy. But then, no offence, but so are the chords.
@Danimal
The top synth line stands out a bit too much. I like how at 1.50 it starts to really pick up pace. The synth line at 2.05 is much better moulded for the track than the other high line. Try some chorus on the one that sounds too dominant. Like the very acoustic sounding percussion and the glitchy noises towards the end.
@Kongret
Intro has swag. Very funky right off the bat. LOVE that high synth line, reminds me a lot of the prodigy. Not much to say apart from that.
@ArrenMog
You've nailed the oldschool dub, dark feel. I imagine that growl synth could be very powerful without being processed to work in this track. Good percussion, nuances keep it interesting.
//////////////
Now for mine. I haven't produced dubstep in over a year. I'm an electro-house producer now(if you listen to my other stuff, you'll see). I randomly started this though 2 days ago. It's very ambient and percussive, but it also has big bass on the "drop" - please note: the vocals are a placeholder - I have a vocalist with a stunning voice writing lyrics right now and ignore the sudden transition at 2 minutes.

@Epsy
Digging the intro, Gated synths are awesome, they seem to get a little over powering though, would like to hear a little more than just the synth. I know you said to ignore, but the transition just threw me. Good WIP overall though mate.
@mindsetAUS
You've got some interesting sounds going on there, I guess I was just waiting for something melodic to come along. Doesnt really sound like a song to me man.
@almostskate100
Kinda liking the watery sounds in the intro. mid/sub line is strong, wish there was a little more going on in this though. Digging the synth at 2:12, good addition to the song, sounds like theres more going on the song now. Over all, nice tune, just seems a bit bare in places.
This is something i whiped up over the past couple of days, But im Definitley Looking for suggestions on how to beef up the middle of the song and perhaps smooth and or make the transition into my wubby part a little better. Either way im open to All criticism and you wont hurt my feelings if you say it sucks

Thanks for the feedback, the vocal sample is from Glaciers - Her majesty & The Wolves. The song itself is pretty minimal, so sampling vocals was a really easy task.

@psypher really feel the build up and melodies but the wobbles after 1 13 arent working imho the straight wobbls before where def a better fit. tbh this tune would be so much better if you keep it like teh drop after 1 53 really feel it just not the main part. man yeeah go for a slow synth tune could see this really work
@espy hm i like the meldoy of the vocals so maybe keep that for your singer dunno think the snare could come up more upfront and the high noise on top a bit down or sidechain it more to the snare
@mindsetAUS yeah there is a sub but maybe its overpowered with the low end of the midrange, try to make as mcuh room as possible for your sub by cutting pretty much everything below around 80-100 hertz of
hm maybe birng the midrange down a bit and the drums up. did you use albino for your reece? haha had nearly the same growl at some point with those pitch automation and distortion 3 or sth
made a idm page and reworked that tune a bit maybe you have some ideas to add

@BudSpencertron
I think that moog style lead needs some saturation/light distortion, too clean for that tune imho. I really like the intro sample, but the part which comes after seems like something from a completely different tune, maybe you should use the whole/parts of sample a few more times throughout the intro.
@Psypher
Drum patterns are nice but sound is too robotic, try to work on your velocities. Crashes/high freq impacts are too loud and harsh, they don't need to be so loud to make an impact. Middle part might sound better with breakbeat, try it out
Transition needs to be more abrupt imo, the way it is now is too muddy, wobbles clash with other instruments, try adding drum break at the end of the middle part and then cut straight into the wobble.
@Espy
Thanks for the feedback
Very nice percussion and sound overall but white noise from 0:55 is kinda annoying, it doesn't stop and it's too loud. I also think that instruments overall could use a bit more eq too make them more distinct.
@mindsetAUS
Interesting sounds and panning. You should work on the balance of your instruments, drums are too quiet, some sounds are to loud, crash could use some eq. Beat needs to be more consistent, it doesn't have groove yet, listen to hi hat/percussion patterns of some producers/bands you like and try to replicate them. Overall you need to work on the structure of your tune, maybe this picture will help

it's plot structure, but that stuff works for music too.
@almostskate100
Nice tune
RIffs are interesting rhythmically and sound vise , vocal samples are nice too(but i'd make them a bit louder). Drum pattern kinda lucks groove at the moment, try to add more accents besides downbeat ones.
@AcidRat
Nice arpeggios, they definitely need to be louder. Overall the drop is too simple imho starts too drag halfway through. Try to use upbeat accents, make melody louder and vary your sounds a bit more, should help.
@Bola
I like the atmosphere but i think that much more could be added besides the pad and percussion
Try listening to Akira Yamaoka's stuff, maybe you'll get some inspiration out of it

@dotcurrency
Not bad for a beginner
You should work on your drums, hihats are too loud and could use a bit more eq, snare needs more body, you should layer it with another snare that has more mids. Vocals need to be brighter and shouldn't be so muddy in the middle part, seems like they are clashing with something
High freq noise in the end of the track is too loud, gets kinda annoying.
So, i reworked my track a bit. Any advice would be much appreciated.
P.S My english still sucks, sorry about that

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
ArrenMog: proper sound! vibe & percussion are on point.
VirusTI: link is down
mthrfnk: cool 4x4 the vox glitch sounds a bit messy to me.
Danimal: im feeling this bit, filthy sounds all over.
Kongret: link is down
dotcurrency: kinda sounds like a raw design trying to sound crips. id say either clean it up or just go with the raw vibe.
all designs show potential except dotcurrency.
just kiddin dude

thanks for the feedback guys, this thread rocks for quick feedback!
thanks Kongret for the plot structure thing, i never thought about it like that before...
budspencertron: probably used albino cant remember tbh, but most likely albino to kontakt
psypher: i know what u mean! my track was called brostep until yesterday...haha my other stuff is a lot more melodic, i think when i start the tune by working on bass i end up with not knowing what key its in and therefore cant really progress past a certain point.. hence the dead end im in with this track!
cheers again guys

A little something I started a couple days ago. Needs more layers, arrangement, build ups and a bassline. I just sequenced the skeleton so far. Thoughts?
