MCs at dubstep nights

Post by reef » Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:07 pm

So I was at FWD for my first time on Friday and I loved everything about the night except for the MC, which I found highly annoying.

Now obviously that's part of the scene and there's no point in me complaining about it.

Just wondering if there are ever nights on where you just hear the tunes and there's no MC. If so, where?

i'm sure there's plenty of nights that don't have mcs but the regular big nights tend to feature MCs by *popular* demand.

Erm - that's probably quite an alarming response for Reef there...

Basically mate, you have got the response you have because you have come to dubstep without an appreciation of where it has come from or the culture that helps make it what it is. There have also been a number of other threads talking about the same thing recently.

If you aren't feeling the MCs, fair enough - you are obviously entitled to your opinion. But before you make this sort of thread, use the search function.

Take it easy.

Cheers for the reply mate. I do know where it (the cluture etc) came from, and that's why I said there's no point in complaining as that's just how it is, and how it will remain as that is dubstep.

I had just never heard it before as I had never gone to a dubstep club before, only been listening to mixes etc as I just moved to London (and there's no dubstep club where I used live).

Wasn't giving out either - I've read the threads that have been put up recently giving out about it, they usually descend into a slagging match. I realise no-one gives a flying fuck if I don't like MCs. Was just askin where I could go without MCs.

Thanks lads

Not all sets have MC's - but to be honest I think they make it more intresting rather than wobblin to the same bit. Especially pokes!

Yeah - fair enough. Reading back my response, it does come across a little wanky. Didn't mean it to sound as condescending as it does.

I guess my momentary frustration got the better of me.

Anyway, hope you find the nights you are looking for. Safe.

Depends on the mc really...

I was at fwd the other week and crazy d said "skream is the arch enemy of Barry Scott" I was creased up laughing at that .. genius line!

but i have been at nights where the mc aint all that and waffles on loads of shit.. good MC's really add to the night.. but bad ones spoil the vibe for me.

I'd like to see some deeper heavy dub style chanting.

There's no emcee to dubstep that I've heard I didn't think was good but I've only really been to FWD.

Ah I'll definitely give it another try - I love the music too much not to.

But to answer my original question, are there ever nights in London without MCs (and if so any coming up?)? Or am I right in understanding that they're pretty much standard here?

"Skream where did you learn the technique to turn everyone's hands into pistols" is still one of the funniest things I've ever heard
