GC §411.174. APPLICATION. (a) An applicant for a license to carry a concealed handgun must submit to the director's designee described by Section 411.176:
(1) a completed application on a form provided by the department that requires only the information listed in Subsection (b);
(2) one or more photographs of the applicant that meet the requirements of the department;
(3) a certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate or certified proof of age;
(4) proof of residency in this state;
(5) two complete sets of legible and classifiable fingerprints of the applicant taken by a person appropriately trained in recording finger-prints who is employed by a law enforcement agency or by a private entity designated by a law enforcement agency as an entity qualified to take fingerprints of an applicant for a license under this subchapter;
(6) a nonrefundable application and license fee of $140 paid to the department;
(7) evidence of handgun proficiency, in the form and manner required by the department;(8) an affidavit signed by the applicant stating that the applicant:
(A) has read and understands each provision of this subchapter that creates an offense under the laws of this state and each provision of the laws of this state related to use of deadly force; and
(B) fulfills all the eligibility requirements listed under Section 411.172; and
(9) a form executed by the applicant that authorizes the director to make an inquiry into any noncriminal history records that are necessary to determine the applicant's eligibility for a license under Section 411.172(a).
(b) An applicant must provide on the application a statement of the applicant's:
(1) full name and place and date of birth;
(2) race and sex;
(3) residence and business addresses for the preceding five years;
(4) hair and eye color;
(5) height and weight;
(6) driver's license number or identification certificate number issued by the department;
(7) criminal history record information of the type maintained by the department under this chapter, including a list of offenses for which the applicant was arrested, charged, or under an information or indictment
8 TEXAS CONCEALED HANDGUN LAWS
and the disposition of the offenses; and
(8) history, if any, of treatment received by, commitment to, or residence in:
(A) a drug or alcohol treatment center licensed to provide drug or alcohol treatment under the laws of this state or another state, but only if the treatment, commitment, or residence occurred during the preceding five years; or
(B) a psychiatric hospital.
(c) The department shall distribute on request a copy of this subchapter and application materials.
So this is the legislation for concealed weapons in Texas. Nothing here about any tests other than the proficiency test I've indicated above and nothing to suggest anyone should be required to know what the fuck they are doing in a dark smoky cinema with lots of very fucking scared people.

people don't intervene in London, but up here in Newcastle people definitely do. But Geordies are much cooler than cockneys so no surprise there :mrgreen:

If you aren't willing to get knifed to protect a woman you're kind of a coward aren't you?

Fundamental difference in some folks I guess.
Why only a woman though? You'd walk past a man getting mugged?

Also I know someone joked about "where's batman when you need him", but really what happened to all those wannabe superheroes in tights that were popping up all over the US? I figured there'd be one at a Batman premier.

Answer to Q1: It doesn't relate to the shootings but to the forum's bizzarre twist at focusing on gun laws rather than the tragedy

Answer to Q2: No anyone is capable of being scared selfish/stiffened by "what ifs" etc

Answer to Q3: Don't use crooked thinking no you don't need to be armed to help. I wrote to the theme of the mental effect of having trained people with concealed weapons (possibly) within the area of vicious crimes. Maybe you can think how this unites "good people" in hazardous times, or how it is a catalyst for courage in those who would otherwise scuttle off.

Answer to Q4: Coward maybe not, but selfish in the pure definition yes. Not judging or saying it's a bad/good thing like.

Jesus why so hungry for drama and girlfriend logic

LEARN THIS YOU BASTARDS

But it was in Colorado? Anyway here's info on the testing required, and there's some videos of them on youtube http://chl-texas.com
I get your point though, but I don't think a cop would have training for that either really. SWAT guys don't roll around in vehicles, and not every city even has them. It would be a Barney Fife cop with probably similar training to a person with a license and who is probably obese and 50.

Sorry I used Texas as an example because it was Texas where Pkay suggested the guy would have been dead in 10 seconds.

I'd imagine very few people have the appropriate training. I've not even commented on US gun legislation really I'm just not convinced that this happening in Texas is less likely to result in such a tragic outcome.

I was talking about Belgium of course, I should update my profile. I have no idea about gun laws in Japan (It never occured to me in a country with such low figures of violence, and I do say violence and not crime).

The Texas proficiency test requires weeks of classes and accuracy/awarenes classes

Again, research then run mouth

RIP
but gun control will do nothing to stop someone who wants a gun from getting one (let alone the massive amounts of guns already in the country), same as drug laws do such an effective job of curbing access to drugs
maybe if there was actual proper training and education on firearms (same with drugs) there wouldn't be this massive fear of them
but yeah no amounts of laws are gonna stop some psycho like this one bent on some massacre (though the colorado pd actually being better trained in things like cs gas and gas masks would have helped in this case)

and i've been through the concealed carry process when i lived in tx, it was by no means a short or easy process and i was in my military at the time

In a dark smoky cinema with people panicking to fuck?

Given there have been a number of spree shootings in the US can you give me an example of where a person with a concealed gun licence has averted this type of tragedy.

It doesn't matter to me how often you decide to call me ignorant. Nothing you have said or pointed to has given any indication that in a state that allows the carrying of concealed weapons this tragedy is averted.

So run mouth when you have something actually tangible to support the hypothesis that if this happens in Texas the guy is likely to be dead in 10 seconds

Also some states have laws against standing by and watching.people get hurt and not.trying to obstruct it within reason.

considering that about 43% of the us populace is a legal firearm owner... i'd say the odds are with you that someone in the cinema is packing or trained with firearms

In this case a concealed handgun owner saved a kids life and likely more and led to police gaining the upper hand on the situation tho it cost him his life

Now shut the fuck up and quit talking out your ass

how many of them have the concealed weapons licence and how many of them are actually able to identify the correct target in a dark cinema after the killer has thrown in a smoke bomb?

I'm not even arguing the anti-gun position I'm just not convinced that the school of thought that says if this happens in Texas the guy is dead within 10 seconds isn't talking complete bollocks
