How to make basshunter drum&bass sequence?

Post by haZzarOus » Sat Jul 21, 2012 12:04 am

Sorry if this should be in another thread, please move it if necessary.
I've been trying to get elements of the basshunter d&b style, exampled by this video at 0:13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9qIILmfPaQ
I just don't understand how he sequences his drums and his bass to make that particular pattern. I've tried putting the bass right in front of the drums, and behind at different intervals, but I just can't make it sound even remotely close. Is he using modulations on the pitch? Help please! It's driving me crazy that I can't figure it out!

:lebowski:

it sounds like the standard hardstyle gated synth cliche, sidechaining works too.

OP this isn't drum and bass. this is a genre called Eurodance. Drum and bass is a lot faster and the drum breaks are very recognisable.

You can tell this is Eurodance by the poppy chords, cheesy melodies and lyrics and synths and 4x4ish sidechained beat which takes elements from disco/house/electro.

i think he said drum and bass sequence because he just wants to know what the drums and bassline are doing... :moedee:

Oh. Then OP, don't ever simplify 'drum and bass sequence' to 'd&b' unless you're actually referring to the genre and NOT the musical elements.

Or else people will think you're a troll. Anyway, look up sidechaining. Chuck a couple of simple patches from something like Sylenth or V-station, add a 4x4 kick, play a simple riff, and you're done.

King Tubby was the first person to coin the term drum & bass on his records in the 70s. They are a lot slower and without many drum breaks. :6:

never thought i would see someone asking to make a basshunter sound in this production forum

but nevertheless its pretty simple: the bass synth just goes on the off beat at the same time as the hihat and set the release on the synth to cut off when the bass drum hits each time. no sidechaining even needed, basshunter probably doesn't even know what sidechaining is lol.

although on second listen sounds like there is some sidechaining on the synth chords in the background :corntard:
