That quote about getting into house around 21 - 23 is almost eerily true for me as well. I was always well into dubstep and went to a fair few nights in Leeds, while my mates were into drum and bass, trance, metal and various other things. Around 2009 I moved in with people who DJ'ed house, a few years down the line there's now a group of like 20 of us, none of which have listened to house longer than 3 years, who all go to the same nights, monocult in Leeds or krankbrother in London and whatnot. It all seemed to happen really naturally, not just with us though but with other groups as well. Maybe this was catalysed by the general decline of traditional dubstep, and diversification of most producers into a garage/housier sound? i.e. Scuba

It's true what people have said on here that you get a lot of muscly fake-tanned types, and chavvy Essex girls at night's like Creche, but it's just a totally different culture than dubstep was to be honest and the whole I'd say people just pay more attention to what they wear. Also no one smokes weed, it's pretty much all mdma with a bit of ket thrown in (not really for me these days). One thing I will say is that there generally seems to be a higher percentage of people at raves who actually know about the music or who they were going to see than my experiences in dubstep/drum and bass. Everyone's actually pretty knowledgeable.

Anyway here's some tunes :h:

deep to me is something that has soul and groove. i think there's a lot of people that get confused with tech house

when done right, deep & tech house go hand in hand, always have. Plastic City Records (1993 - present, future, beyond?) in it entirety has always been one of the key blueprints in that equation. any of u younger cats diggin thru new deep & *tech house related sounds specifically* NEED to do some homework , & see where alot of the sound originates from. you'll find alot of it in the large Plastic City Records catalogue. imo some of the illest moments in house music period, come from Plastic City Records. inspiration from Marshall Jefferson onwards. i've been a fan since day.

J Axel aka Ronin (Sweden - Plastic City, Driftwood Music, Deep4life, Boheme, Placktown Sounds, etc) .. for real one of my fave deep house producers & djs. if u ever seen a J Axel mix, GRAB it, they're kinda rare. first heard his stuff on Plastic City, then Deep4life (Chicago), onwards.

i posted a thread about Plastic City Records on dsf YEARS ago.. before the house subforum was around. not one reply lol :(

i can do it justice now in a deep house thread right?

u need this lp - The Timewriter - Jigsaw Pieces - Plastic City Recs 1998. then listen to everything Jean F. Cochois has done, and then everything else he puts out in the future. heh. u dig? cinematic ambient pieces, downtempo, deep & tech house, dub techno, its all there. really diverse dj too, even drops some recent killer liquid & atmos dnb sets on his soundcloud. there's also some post dubsteppy garage sounds in one of his Laidback Sessions podcasts late last year. switching things up. keepin us all guessing. dude is briliant. productions second to none. large discography to jump into.

yeah, i'm a fan from day. bigs.

..Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone
of Nu Groove Records. This New York label started in 1987 and took
inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This
compilation compiles the absolute best of the Burrell's output and in
doing so is giving us a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of
New York house music. - Rush Hour Records - Feb 2012

nice to see the timewriter mentioned in here. shit is sooo good.

in reality there is quite a lot of good deep techy house as long as you stay away from the generic beatport digital crew. for me force track was one of the best labels for that sort of stuff. i really wish i hadn't been 10 or 11 when most of this stuff came out lol:
