Heh, I'm exactly the opposite with these. People posting pictures of their own meals just makes me think "Yes, I had to cook tonight too, much like last night and however many hundred before hand... well done for working an oven just like 75% of the world's population".

People posting from fancy restaurants at least makes me think they're doing something notable with their evening.

Meal at home is achieving something though, creating something yourself...all the reason to be proud.

Going to an expensive restaurant and snapping the food is just an extension of bragging about how much money you have...totally crass IMO.

There's creation and there's creation - if people were posting pictures of Blumenthal style efforts, then perhaps it'd be worth taking the time to take a photo before eating... but, honestly, posting a picture of a bogstandard Chilli with the caption "MMMM, FOOODTIME!" just makes me wonder if people cook for themselves so rarely that it really is that much of a special event for them.

Having a night out at a restaurant is a notable event, just like going to a club or going to the theatre. I wouldn't come into work telling everyone that I cooked Carbonara last night or that I listened to a CD, but I would tell them if I went to Nobu or went to a gig. One's interesting, the other isn't.

Did you know hippos kill 2900 hundred people in Africa annually.

That's basically a hippo 9/11 every year

I haven't been to the driving range in years.
I have one across the road from me as well.
Beautiful range in a pine forest.

Malaria's killed more humans worldwide than anything else in the history of humanity.

I remember an episode of the Really Wild Show where Terry Nutkins and Chris Packham were talking about the most dangerous animal in the world being in a box with a black cover over it, then revealing it to be mosquitos. Felt proper let down, was expecting some sort of double hard bastard snake or spider or something.

You're absolutely right, of course, but just occasionally NOTHING will do but a bag of good ol' traditional Walkers Salt & Vinegar.

There's nothing more dangerous than a wounded mosquito.
