Re: Mala working on Cuban album...
Aren't the majority of those tunes pretty old though?
Coki is a good producer, but his recent output.... meh.
I find it weird that people will slate Skream and other producers for making/playing tearout tunes but when Coki does it it's amazing?
Don't get me wrong, I like a few Coki wobblers, like I like a few Skream wobblers, but I think he's just safe from the shitstorm cause he's part of dmz to be honest.

When was the last time you heard Coki play basscannon or plenty skrillex?jsml wrote:Aren't the majority of those tunes pretty old though?

thats true, but production-wise, still. i'm not comparing coki to skrillex by the way, before someone takes it to that weird place.
Re: Mala working on Cuban album...
There's a difference though. No matter how crazy Coki's tracks get, his production, his drums, his flow and shuffle and his subs, are almost always on point. His tracks still have feeling and dub influence, even when perched on the brink of insanity.

I just can't wait to have a whole fucking album .....thing about this, I think the excitement hasn't really sunk in yet because it seems so far away. A whole brand new album, full of brand new Mala tunes. The anticipation and excitement is really starting to hit me as I'm realizing that this will be such a large project, and so much new material at once from Mala.

His Majesty is a recent Coki dub that's on a more chilled out vibe. And a lot of Skream's tearout stuff is on point. People complain more about the productions of other peoples' that he plays.jsml wrote:Aren't the majority of those tunes pretty old though?

went to the listening party in NYC. this is not an album thats going to sound like what you expect from mala. be ready for bpm changes, and generally twists and turns on the subbass foundation. the 30 of us that heard the whole thing on a funktion one rig on monday night were not disappointed.

I was somewhat disappointed. I was there too on Monday for the album listening party and thought 'Mulata', 'Tribal', 'Changuito', and 'Revolution' all sounded nearly the same. It's was surprising that the best tracks on the album were the slower bpm ones like 'Como Como'. 'Noches Sueños' really was incredible though.
Re: Mala working on Cuban album...
I'm gonna put the Coki thing to bed as not to hijack this thread. Duppy Soursup is shit though.
Can't wait to hear Mala's album, I'm eagerly waiting for it (as well as LV's album). Will be interesting to hear him work with different tempos for sure.
